  • The best thing I have watched this year. Great characters/script/lots of plot twists to keep you guessing. Persons of No Interest to the KGB.

Thanks! It looks good.

For fans of high quality indie films with depressing subject matter.

URCHIN

Urchin movie review & film summary (2025) | Roger Ebert

www.rogerebert.com/reviews/urchin-harris-dickinson-film-review-2025

A conversation early in Harris Dickinson’s excellent directorial debut “Urchin” (winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes this year) between protagonist Mike (Frank Dillane) and a guy he meets on the street named Simon (Okezie Morro) speaks of “a gap of empathy” in modern society. Dickinson’s nuanced character study closes that gap, but it does so in a way that’s never sentimental or manipulative. Inspired by tales of people on the fringe by Mike Leigh, Sean Baker, and the Safdie Brothers, “Urchin” stays committed to presenting Mike’s story without frills, recognizing that it’s just a tragically common one of a man spiraling down the drain of society.

Thanks for the heads-up @gargamon . I seem to have missed season 1 of this series. Season 1 complete pack is on TPB for any interested parties. Will wait for season 2 complete pack to appear.

This has good ratings, but I don’t think it’s going to be on Netflix because it’s an Amazon/ MGM Studios production, unfortunately.

Thanks for the heads-up @Will27. It's on 1337x, TheRARBG, TPB etc

Just finished it. Good script; tense plot and, at 4 episodes, short enough to reach a conclusion (whilst still leaving scope for S2.)

Thanks for the helpful info.

What is the name of the show? If you're just thanking mutt then PM it or like the post. Better yet, name the show so everyone can see.

Betrayal, I think, and agree, quite good.

Thanks.

I watched a movie from 2022 called "Benediction" and the film follows the life of Siegfried Sassoon (played by Jack Lowden), a British poet and decorated World War I combat veteran who was sent to a psychiatric facility for his anti-war stance. He had love affairs with several men during the 1920s, married, had a son, and converted to Catholicism.

In the film he cavorted with quite a few homosexuals, some outrageously some others more closeted, and be warned that the film contains some pretty horrendous photos of dead and damaged World War I soldiers.

It was slow going, but I enjoyed it and towards the end Peter Capaldi played Sassoon later on in his life and it showed just how married life had "treated" him!

Another movie which came to mind for some odd reason, and which made me seek it out, although it wasn't easy, was "McKenna's Gold" and I had seen it decades ago so thought it would be worthwhile giving it another try.

Having said that I wasn't ready for the scenes which were played out in front of a painted background/screen rather than the real thing, and the scene where Gregory Peck having been strapped to a horse has to cross a rickety old rope and wood bridge over a ravine is farcical and looks to have been put together in the studio with small models!

With all that, it pales by comparison with the movies/scenes made since its inception.

PS. I also decided to watch a classic again, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and am so pleased that I did it because not only is it a well made movie, it is so meticulously crafted with its action and dialogue as to let the viewer see a movie classic.

Obviously with its star-studded cast it was always going to be "one not to be missed", and I didn't!

Actually, since only 4 eps, it was 'Betrayal', and as I stated, though it was quite good. Ponies is 8 eps, and I only made it through half of eps 2.
