Air purifier again!

Featured Replies

So, for a 30m2 room, is it Xiami or Dyson that you would get if you think about decibel noise, and effect?

I do have an old Xiami 3c that have seen its better days now. Soon 5 years, and starts to make noise, and can not find the reason why. And no matter how much particles there in the air, it starts on 20, and soon goes down to 0 after 10 minutes, and thats outside.

For a 30m² room, the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is the best choice for a balance of performance and value, while the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier Elite is a premium option offering superior features and capacity that provide a greater performance reserve. The "Max" model is a naming variation for older "Pro" models, such as the Mi Air Purifier MAX or Pro, which are less available now.

Comparison

The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro has an effective coverage area of 35-60 m², while the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier Elite is designed for rooms up to 125 m², according to Xiaomi sale. This means both are more than adequate for your 30m² room, ensuring efficient and quick air purification.

Xiaomi vs Dyson

The primary difference is that the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP07 is a premium, multi-functional device that acts as an air purifier, heater, and fan, while the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is a more specialized and budget-friendly air purifier.

Key Takeaways

Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP07: The HP07 is best if you want a single, sleek device that purifies, heats, and cools your room year-round. It offers comprehensive air quality data and advanced features like full machine sealing to HEPA H13 standard, ensuring everything that goes inside stays inside. However, this versatility comes at a significantly higher price and its actual air purifying power for larger rooms is lower than the Xiaomi Pro.

Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro: This model is ideal if your priority is simply effective and cost-efficient air purification. It has a higher air cleaning capacity (CADR) suitable for larger spaces (up to 60m²) and offers great value for money. It is an air purifier only, without the heating/cooling fan capabilities of the Dyson, but it performs the core purification function very well for its price

Ordered elite

The Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier Elite is a higher-performance model compared to the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro, featuring a higher CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), larger coverage area, and additional sterilization technology. The 4 Pro is a capable purifier for medium-to-large rooms, but the Elite is designed for even larger or semi-open spaces.

If you opt for Dyson be prepared for disastrous spare part availability. I bought a vacuum cleaner and had to wait anything between 8 and 26 weeks for replacement parts, which of course came from Malaysia but were priced extremely high. What good is it having a Dyson that is out of service for 6 months, and all it was was a simple low tech plastic dust hopper. I replaced my Dyson with a much less expensive and much more reliable brand.

What parts are you talking about?

I've gotten my spares from Lazada.

I think Xiaomi is the best economical solution also when it comes to spare parts. Dyson do have a problem with counterfeit products I just found out, and the reason is their high prices.

Should be easy to find counterfeit parts cheaper?

My main lounge is a little more than 30sm… I went with a pair of Xaiomi 4 Lites… cost ~2,500 each to total 5,000… I placed them at opposite ends of the room near each sliding door tucked away so they don’t overwhelm the room… I set them to about 50% speed so I can hardly hear them (Full speed is very noisy) and they work great… With the app I have them set to start and stop… I have others in the bedroom, library and TV room… Filters are easily sourced- But you have to watch out for knock off filters that are not true Hepa filters…

all of them connected to app? does it require wifi internet coverage in every room?

Yes.. You need wifi... But my 3BB wifi router covers the whole condo which is 140sm no problem...

BTW... The app is great, it allows you to customize the fan speed and set them up with on/off schedules to go on in the morning before you get up and the bedroom ones go on before bedtime...

We bought two inexpensive air purifiers from Lazada 5 years ago. I believe that they cost about 1,000 Baht each. There are no fancy AIQ meters on it. We didn't need it as we already have a hand-held meter for checking the effects. It does have a few different settings, but we just turn them to 'Auto' (runs on high for about 10 minutes, then reduces power for continued cleaning. Two of them keep the numbers in single digits.

That said, I tried just wrapping a piece of 3M filter material behind an ordinary floor fan instead of using the air purifiers. After all, that is basically all an air purifier is, just with more controls!

Two day's results told me I didn't even need to spend the money on fancy air purifiers. See for yourself...
Before... and after two days. Just letting the suction of the back of the fan hold the filter in place, and this is what we saw...

We use these on our a/c’s, and were using them way before the wife insisted on air purifiers of which we’ve been using for about five years or so and the filters in them have yet to been changed and are at ~80%. Those a/c pre filter sheets work well.

Air Purifiers work very well. They do the job for which they are intended.

But they are not magic. They are just a sheet of filter material behind a fan, all enclosed in a fancy case, with a few buttons and meters, all of which you pay extra for.

However, they do have the magic name, 'Purifier.'

That must be why they cost 5X more than just a fan and some filter paper.

I know @KhunLA do, so nice if you could link your filter, or just confirm this is okay?

I'm quite happy with the new purifier and will add one to my gym as well where I placed the old Xiaomi 3c . I have cleaned that filter once, so time to get a new one, or replace the unit, because the fan motor have started to make noise I can not figure out what is or why.

The 3c have been running for good 30 min now, and not as effective as the Elite, and the gym is 36m2 with high ceiling, so quite a bit larger volume than the bedroom which is 30m2 with lower ceiling

Basically, this is what we use. I scored a dozen boxes of 3M filter paper quit by accident, and decided to experiment. With AIQ meter in hand, we tested several different fan sources; air conditioners, room fans, table fans, and of course, the air purifiers.

The results showed little difference between any. The air purifiers were the most convenient. The air/con did filter the air coming through, and the room fan motors had to work harder, but did the job.

We’ll continue to use the air purifiers that we’ve bought years ago, but for those two weeks at the beginning of April when it gets really bad, we’ll augment with filters behind the fans. (We only use the a/c at night for sleeping. )

Get a roll of 3m, the purple/blue box, not the red one. Cut the sheets to length and tape over the existing a/c filters and the purifier, and or behind the fan as folkguitar mentioned. We also use it in cabin vent air filters in our vehicles.

I did some extensive testing 2 years ago with filter sheets and compared that to the result of real Xiaomi air purifiers. While the filter sheets change colour within days the big difference lies in the measured air quality. If air pollution is light than the sheets bring that down slightly to a better value. With high air pollution the sheets are unable to

compete with a real purifier. Only the purifiers can really make the air clean in this case.

Do not make the mistake to trust the cheap so called air purifiers at Lazada/Shoppee. They do not have real PM 2.5 filters installed even if the product description says so. I learned that the hard way.

Have a Dyson TP09 air purifier that needed a new CPU. It only took 9 (nine) months to get it repaired.

Most likely the fan inside the laser sensor unit, its a well known issue. People report fixing it with taking the sensor unit apart and giving the fan a squirt of WD40. I just ordered one - Air Purifier PM2.5 Laser Sensor for Xiaomi Air Purifier pro H /MAX /3c/3H /pro parts replacement.

I ordered it on Aliexpress but check Lazada and Shopee probably there to. Theres also youtube videos showing how to fix or replace.

im sure I find a dyi video of it on YouTube. Thanks.

I just ordered one more Elite for the gym, the 3c spent quite a few hours to clean the room compared to Elite with more capacity. It will not be running 24/7 in the gym either, so turn it on same time I turn on the aircon.

I have three Daiken units I like. They're quiet and the pre-filters are easy to clean. I bought them about 5-7 years ago and they have run almost continuously, have worked flawlessly, and I have not had to replace anything. The carbon filter is supposed to last ten years.

It is rated for 62m^2, but given it filters 480m^3/hr., I with my 3m ceilings, I rate them at 26-40 max.

You should get at least 4 and preferably 6 air turns an hour.
