One of my pals on this forum (dave2) lived alone, they didn't find his body until he started stinking out the condo block

I think his care factor was zero at that time...

What's this “winning the day“? The most posts in a day?

Any idiot can make useless threads like you,do and reply to themselves multiple times. It means nothing.

The ratio is much more accurate.

Petition
Ensure the annual pension increase applies to all pensioners living abroad

We want the Government to ensure that pensioners get thier annual increase if they live abroad in certain countries. Currently, some people do not receive increases even if they have worked 50 years in the UK prior to retiring abroad.
You can see and sign the petition here >  https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/746473

So then they would know you are in Thailand, if you signed that petition......that would be really daft.

I shall try to find out.

By the way, shall we try to get back on-topic please? Pretty please!

Me too, i like living alone but I wouldn't want to be isolated with little chance of social interaction leading to potential cabin fever daily

Good point and if I ever feel the need for social interaction (rare) I go to get a foot massage at the shop of a Thai woman and her sister as they can speak reasonable English, or chat to the girls in the supermarket or just go for a drive in my little Suzuki Swift and play some music......but when all is said and done, I spend most of the time on my own.

Sorry, but you're p*ssing in the wind on this one.

No UK government will ever 'unlock' the frozen pensions...

(This from someone who 2 weeks ago returned to live in the UK after 23 years in Asia, with one driving factor in my decision being the frozen pensions).

Wow, have you posted any reflections since you returned? If not, pls do so 🙂

Did you bring your volunteer police uniform from your heyday in Phuket? With a whistle you can patrol the parking lots of the grocers holding the scofflaws who abandon their shopping trolleys in the parking areas. You can celebrate wearing it when your pension increases in 5 months and 2 weeks time.

Does this mean you will never return to Laos, Thailand or Myanmar?

lol, I do have my police ID card somewhere...

I told the pensions department that I had returned home and they noted that and told me that my UK state pension would increase by about 40 quid/month from April, so all good.

As far as returning to Laos, Thailand and Myanmar is concerned:

  • Laos is off the cards now, since I'm tired of being arrested for no reason by the corrupt police!

  • Thailand is fine for visits, but I'm not depositing 800,000 THB for a 'retirement' visa. Besides, I returned back to the UK for 2 main reasons - my frozen UK pension and possible health issues in later years. (I have to be realistic about these things). As BritManToo says, I should get someone to check in on me/live with me, to avoid stinking up the place should I die alone....

  • Myanmar makes me sometimes cry - yes literally. I have no intention of abandoning my educational charity efforts in the country. I have calculated the cost for me to travel to Myanmar (Inle Lake) and teach English (for free) for a month during the school holidays - teaching/practicing especially spoken English with students and local teachers. The overall cost is not too bad, about $1,500 total. I can continue to improve and support my mobile apps from the UK, and also get my vocabulary posters etc printed locally in Taunggyi and distributed in my physical absence. The Myanmar government usually lets me into the country, unless they have a 'spat' with the UK government (like when the generals' UK bank accounts were frozen lol).

Actually, I plan to post maybe a 'sticky' topic to advise UK pensioners what to do if they return to live in the UK, what benefits they are entitled to, what obstacles they might have in settling down again in ol Blighty..

Lol....you get it better than Australian pensioners !!

Free meds? Here in Australia for a old age pensioners it's $5.20 per script

No free public transport it's $2.50 a day

You have to be IN Australia for 2 years before applying for the pension !!

Unfortunately Australians are idiots and won't complain they are submissives

Correct me if I am wrong, as long as you do not change your residency, you should be able to undertake specific teaching contracts/ assignments in myanmar, e.g. 90 days in and out for 30-60 days and respecting the 180 day window requirement. It would make for a nice management of the cold and damp season in the UK. Perhaps 60 days out, 30 days back and 60 days out and you avoid the worst of winter and can renew your medications etc. And if I have it all wrong, just dismiss this rumination aloud.

I think that your heart is in Asia and even though there are medical issues, 60 days in the tropics can be a restorative elixir for both mind and body. Do try to visit from time to time as I think your heart will be amiss without the gentle breeze (of polluted air).

^^ Absolutely correct. My medical needs/medicine is actually a minor issue - I can manage my lung health very well now (having got advice from the relevant FaceBook group). Yes, my UK residency/pension rights etc will not be affected by regular visits to Myanmar to do volunteer teaching.

Please, please...UK needs your pensions to fund troops, cash and arms sent to Ukraine...please be understanding.

I managed to find a private landlord who was happy to rent to me without any credit agency check. It's a house in Minehead, 750 quid/month (which to me is a rop-off but apparently normal cost now!). but all OK

Sorry, you have been forced back to the UK through this pension nonsense.

A quick point, though: 750 quid doesn't get you much in the UK these days.

Don't mince your words here, say what you think!.....😂

This subject is worse than flogging a dead horse

I have signed plenty of petitions involving the frozen pensions for people living in Thailand and else where

Never going to happen luckily I have other pensions to live on here

Sorry for the guys who don't
