A Thai prime ministerial candidate has reignited debates on gender equality by proposing that women be allowed to have up to four husbands with mutual consent. Mongkolkit Suksintharanont, representing the Thai Alternative Party, shared this idea recently on social media, triggering extensive online discussions. Some see the notion as progressive, while others view it as potential satire or merely a tactic meant to spark conversation.

Mongkolkit is known for his attention-grabbing proposals rather than traditional policy platforms. Previous suggestions include creating a "space force" for Thailand, offering cash incentives to women for pregnancy to address declining birth rates, and even acquiring nuclear weapons. His latest multi-husband policy follows this trend of unconventional ideas, challenging existing norms and encouraging dialogue about marriage laws and gender rights.

While the proposal lacks detailed plans for legal and social execution, it has already fueled conversations about the impact of such policies on societal structures. Experts have yet to weigh in extensively, but the proposition raises questions about the feasibility and potential consequences of redefined marital arrangements. Additionally, it highlights the role of political messaging in altering public discussions within Thailand.

Looking ahead, it is uncertain whether this proposal will affect Mongkolkit's political prospects or inspire legislative considerations. However, it underscores the evolving landscape of gender equality debates in Thailand, possibly prompting further examination of marriage and family structures. The idea may continue to polarize or engage various societal sectors, depending on future political and public discourse developments, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • Thai PM candidate suggests women could have up to four husbands.

  • Proposal sparks debates on gender equality and marriage laws.

  • Implementation details remain unclear, affecting public discourse.

I read the headline and was completely confused, I read more and still confused wtf are they on about - did I miss something

A Burmese woman who lived next door to me a few years ago had two husbands. A very quiet house until she had a kid. With birth control that could have worked so one has to agree that polyandry might work .

The divorce settlement would be a legal minefield with 4 - who paid what & when etc 😂 - just don't get married - a bit of paper that can cause so much crap further down the line if doesn't work out - if you want 4 just see each a separate time but as the saying goes "don't <deleted> on your own doorstep"Thailand males not known for allowing this as the news proves

The sex life would be hard to juggle. The wife, on the average minimum would have to have sex once a day

And these people believe that this is an appropriate policy as opposed to say education, judicial, police, army or bureaucratic reform.

Sigh.

Stay calm everyone! Just a little bit of anti-Muslim satire.

Perfectly harmless.

Husband 1 gets her from October to End Jan

husband 2 gets her Feb-Apr

Husband 3 gets her for May July

Husband 4 gets her from Aug to October.

Now they have thier timings for the 90-day tourist visa If you knocker her up during your visist then youget to payfor the kid.

You can go back to Oz, UK CAN or US and know that youhave a guaranteed companion for your visit and donot have to go trolling

Has anyone consulted the Men of the Cloth where this system actually is legal in the 21st century - just the other way round?

I think if he was saying men could have 4 wifes every one here would be cheering him on.

Not a flipping chance of that. Islam says that you can have more than one wife However you have to do for e3ach the same. That would be too friggin expensive. wear me out physically and imagine having to listen to 4 wives nagging me about this or that.

Not a chance in hell Man

But Islam already has the many wives policy and is simply a guide to show what it would be like to have many wives.

Consider if you bought wife A a brand new SUV, how long until B, C, and D are screaming.

I look forward to equality – so, we men are not restricted to mia nois and side girls...whistling

Bar girls have had four or more ' husbands' for decades.

They probably don't know each other though.

Thai men cant even handle an ex gf to have a new bf, how in the world would they deal with 3 other husbands not to mention the foreign ATM that thinks its his gf too

I imagine an ideal family made up of eight people from a collective marriage where each woman married four men and each of these men married the four women.

I also imagine that everyone in this large family is bisexual and that the rule is that everyone changes sexual partners every night.

During holidays, group sex is allowed.

I hope to be able to see soon the movie depicting the daily life of this 'legal' family...

Sometimes 1 is already too much.... And than4?????? I never understand what is in the mind of Thais... Buy a dildo is cheaper and easier to get rid of....but that is not allowed....

again i ask WHAT has islam Doctrine to do with Thailand !! In Thailand, you can only have one legal wife due to monogamous family laws enacted in 1935

I guess with the cost of surgery, cosmetics, spa treatments and the ever increasing cost of branded goods one sponsor is not enough.

Actually there are way too many nukes already on this rock. Hopefully sane folks will keep some kind of control or all will be lost and maybe the rock will recover in several thousand years. My opinion anyway.
