Residents in Phuket are reeling after a massive steel beam fell from a crane, crashing through the roof of a home. The incident occurred within a luxury condominium project in the Surin Beach area. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The shocking event took place on January 15, 2569, and was captured in a video shared on the Facebook page "โหดจังจังหวัดภูเก็ต." The clip, lasting 1.12 minutes, shows a large steel beam plummeting from a construction crane into a house. The location is specifically in the Surin 8/3 Lane, Cherngtalay Sub-District, Thalang District, Phuket Province.

The page accompanied the video with the comment, "Phuket remains unsurpassed!" The video showed a luxury condo project in the Surin Beach area, with steel falling from the crane into the house. Residents fear recurrence, with children and bedridden patients nearby!” The homeowner, visibly shaken, narrates in the clip, describing previous issues with the same project, such as water damage, and expressing relief that no one was hurt.

Social media reacted swiftly once the video surfaced, with many netizens voicing concerns over safety standards. Comments ranged from criticisms of increasing urban hazards to questions about accountability, saying, "If the steel had hit someone, who would be responsible? Why doesn't the company ensure safety?" Others recommended an independent engineer assess the damage, not relying on the project's staff due to potential bias, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • An enormous steel beam fell from a crane onto a house in Phuket; no injuries were reported.

  • The incident has stirred online debate about safety standards in construction.

  • Homeowners are urged to seek independent evaluations of any structural damage.

An AI search says: -

Strongest indication of the builder/contractor: SPS Phuket Construction Co., Ltd.

The developer’s own site (The Chardonnay) has a news post stating (English + Thai) that:

  • The Chardonnay Co., Ltd. has partnered with SPS Phuket Construction Co., Ltd. to begin construction of The Petit Tycoon … Surin Beach, Phuket.”

  • Thai text also describes a formal cooperation signing to proceed with construction.

That’s the clearest direct statement I can find publicly linking a specific construction company to the project.

Thailand's natural predator is the crane.

Nothing wrong with the crane... just the operator.

I wonder how it is connected to Italian mafia. Just speculating. Money laundering?

More likely the underpaid immigrant worker.

... assuming the crane has been erected correctly.

In my working life and decades in Thailand I note that the most likely cause of dropped loads during crane lifts are failed wire cables, slings and attachments such as shackles. These items are subject to daily inspection and maintenance including propers storage when not in use and should be load tested periodically as indicated by a stamped metal plate attached to the sling.

As a spectator I have seen corroded and kinked wire slings in use on many sites. Clearly, a tower crane operator cannot descend to check a load is safely attached before each lift and has to rely on workers on the ground.

I have Not seen crane is it a remote hand held control from ground level? Or is operator in sky with others on ground using radio or hand signals 🤔

Sounds to me like who ever put the sling on probably used too heavy duty sling around the beam once and beam slid out of support. Or could be usual used old piece of rope that broke

Sounds very French from the names.

This is not a massive steel beam. Having been in the industry for 50 years l would label it as a piece of square tube around 100 x 100 . Not a massive sort of beam in my book. However if it hit you ????????? Wow.

Agreed.

I actually reckon it is smaller than 100 x 100 SHS.

Still though, not nice for it to come ripping into one home uninvited!
