So then what is the point of mentioning disabilities? What difference does it make? Your posts are quite strange, so I guess you are referring to yourself.

do you think this forum provides an outlet and service to those with some kind of disability whether that be mental physical addiction etc

You nailed it, most here have a mental physical addiction.

Spending every hour of the day on these forums keeps them off the streets.

Yes it's like a half way house.

You would think this forum could apply for Government funding in assistance to the mentally ill, they could in Australia!

The term "handicapped" is deeply offensive and should be banned.

Outdated and Offensive: It is viewed as archaic, disrespectful, and demeaning to people with disabilities.

Connotes Pity: The term is often associated with the image of a person begging with "cap in hand," implying a passive recipient of charity rather than an active member of society.

Incorrect Definition: The word is frequently misused as a synonym for disability. A handicap is properly understood as the limitation imposed by an inaccessible environment, not an inherent trait of a person.

Implies Inability: It emphasizes what a person cannot do, whereas modern language focuses on accessibility and inclusion.

The proper term is "person with a disability" (people-first language) or "disabled person" (identity-first language).

You do know what "handicapped" means, right?

Or are you completely ignorant of horse-racing?

I am handicapped and it's not offensive to me at all. Nobody should speak for the handicapped, except the handicapped. But there are always those who claim, "If you are not offended, I will be offended for you."

There is no 'proper term'. Any term used for years will eventually become a stigma and have to be updated and renewed to the 'new proper term', at which time 'disabled' will become 'deeply offensive', to quote your words. My aunt worked at Phoenix Crippled Children's Hospital, which carried that name for 30 years. When 'crippled' became offensive, it was switched to 'handicapped', and that solved the problem. But then 'handicapped' became a stigma, so they switch to 'disabled'.

'Differently-Abled', 'Physically Challenged', and 'People with Determination' have also been thrown out there as options. Before 'Crippled', the word 'Invalid' was used. What will be the expiration date for calling people 'disabled'? It's all nothing more than silly word games, often pushed along by people with no handicap at all. Refer to me as crippled, handicapped, disabled, different, challenged, determined or gimpy, I really don't care, and I don't want other people to 'care' on my behalf.

Handicapped" refers to having a physical or mental impairment limiting major life activities, but the term is often considered outdated and potentially offensive when describing people, with preferred terms being "person with a disability," "disabled person," or "person with a [specific disability]" (e.g., wheelchair user, blind person). While still used in some contexts like "handicapped parking," focusing on the person first emphasizes their identity over their impairment, aligning with the "person-first" language movement.

Would you kindly use proper English in your speech? It would greatly enhance our communication and understanding. Thank you!

"Handicapped" refers to having a physical or mental impairment limiting major life activities..."

A handicap is a mechanism used in sports, games, and racing to equalize competition by giving advantages or disadvantages to participants based on varying skill levels...

Handicapped therefore means struggling under an additional burden. Not necessarily disabled, but with an additional burden. The earlier "cap in hand" suggestion was just gibberish.

A disability (or handicap) is a long-term physical or mental impairment that causes barriers in daily life and prevents full participation in society. Affecting roughly 20% of the Danish population, it includes physical, mental, and cognitive conditions. Support, including aides and compensation, is available through specific national services.

Key Definitions and Context

  • Definition: A disability is defined as a limitation that restricts a person's daily life, which is not fully compensated for, thus creating barriers.

  • Types: Disabilities can be visible or invisible, encompassing physical (mobility) and mental/cognitive challenges.

  • Language Preference: While "handicapped" is used in technical contexts (e.g., parking), terms like "person with a disability" or "disabled person" are preferred in many disability communities.

  • Prevalence: In 2024, ~28.3% of Danes (aged 16-64) reported having a disability or long-term health issue, a number that has been rising.

Support and Rights in Denmark

Key Issues

  • Employment: There is a high potential for employment among people with disabilities, with studies indicating many want to work.

  • Access: Misuse of parking spaces for people with disabilities is a significant issue, necessitating tighter control and better awareness.

  • Inclusion: Campaigns focus on meeting the individual rather than focusing solely on the impairment, aiming to reduce the social stigma.

Since the sum total of posters here could easily fit into a school bus, I have my doubts that they all live in the same low rent condo.

Obviously you said brother and not father because we both know where he is

After you give yourself an uppercut to the jaw , for being so stupid , you can put me on block /ignore

Of course you will get the temptation to have "just ONE more peek" at my blocked posts telling yourself your this will "be the last time"...this will be the last time" ..as you open my blocked posts for just one more peek !

Put yourself out of misery old man and block me ..and ..don't open the post

I think the one thing that this community provides that is important is people like @Sheryl @ubonjoe and others.

The ability to come on here and ask for recommendations for assistance is HUGE with the wide variety of people that are on here and have had to use different services in the country.

For those that sit at their computers and log on just to get a taste of communication with another "real" person while drinking is a little scarey but hey it is just the digital version of the old men at the mall drinking a coffee talking about the old days or the old guys at the legion talking about what they did inthe war and what they think about how the world has changed around them.

Ubonjoe is unable to provide any more assistance, unfortunately.
