Just now, I read about the book "Adventures with Chocolate: 80 Sensational Recipes". Making your own truffles seems quite messy, but I see that the author has a shop in Islington where he sells his creations and as I shall be in London later this year I am putting it on my itinerary.

yummm!

I get hopping mad whenever I see a news report about a scientific study, on any subject, without giving a link to the jounal where the study was published. Nobody does, neither tabloids nor broadsheets.

Chocolate can 'help you slim'

EATING chocolate could help make you slim, a study suggests.

The research shows that adults who ate a modest amount of the sweet treat more often were thinner and had a lower body mass index than those who ate less.

They also tended to eat more and did not exercise frequently.

The University of California study using 1,000 men and women suggests that the benefits to a person's metabolism of eating chocolate could offset any fat put on by having the snack.

And research leader Professor Beatrice Golomb said: "Our findings appear to add to a body of information suggesting that the composition of calories, not just the number of them, matters for determining their ultimate impact on weight.

"In the case of chocolate, this is good news — both for those who have a regular chocolate habit, and those who may wish to start one."

The researcher, Beatrice Golomb, seems to have an

impressive curriculum vitae, but I would have liked to find out who funded this research.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I have found out a little more, in a German-language newspaper, about this chocolate research by Prof Beatrice Golomb.

  • Published in Archives of Internal Medicine
  • 1018 test persons, of whom two-third were men
  • Average age: 57 years
  • Average BMI: 28
  • Ate chocolate twice per week
  • On average did sport 3.6 times per week

Conclusion: I should have posted this in the "I'm Too Fat Forum", since BMI 25–30 means overweight.

Here's a news article in a more reputable paper about the study: www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_123396.html

The bottom line seems to be that if you are fat and eat chocolate you are likely to weigh a teeny bit less than those who are fat and do not eat chocolate.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

LOL

even without the further analysis you kindly obtained for us, even "I" would not have bought that story about chocolates helping people slim

I wish!!!

if that were the case then Id prolly have the best body in the world ----or I might just be all bones :o

You just need to share it out a bit more fairly migsy! giggle.gif

I'll get my coat...ph34r.png

I do share

you know I do :D

(Would have saved the green n black for you - albeit for slightly selfish reason, expecting it to miraculously turn to some sorta brownie someone talked about :whistling: ) but it cant wait anymore!)

Just wundrin if we have had this most enjoyable looking event in here.

Chocolate printer to go on sale after Easter

_59522581_choco.jpg

The researchers say the printer is very easy to use

The UK scientists who developed a prototype chocolate printer last year say they have now perfected it.

They hope to have the machine on sale at the end of April - just missing the Easter egg rush.It would allow chocolate lovers to print their own custom-made sweets, layer by layer.

Posted with a chocolate munching machine

  • 2 months later...

In early April I posted about a chocolate printer, invented at a UK university, and today I found some videos about it on YouTube. The machine is not on sale yet but a company named Choc Edge Limited seems to be working on its production and is taking pre-orders for version 1. GBP 2,488 is a bit hefty for me but hopefully the price will come down as demand increases. Don't see why it should cost much more than an inkjet printer.

Maestro re your post #528, et al, I fail to see how that can be? Is it related to a particular type of chocolate only? Does chocolate have the effect of somehow eliminating portions of fat from the body? Presumably the fact that most chocolate is sweetened wouldn't make much of a difference? Since you seem to have done some looking into this particular issue, it would be interesting to know the reason for the effect. (Presumably, this doesn't mean that wolfing down a large bar of Nestlé every day would be a good idea...)
