What?

I guess the owner had a run of new members and decided he'd made enough advance non-refundable membership money. Hope he enjoys his new Benz.

You have any contact details for them? Or a receipt showing the registered business name? If so you should be able to track them down through the local business registration office. I see that the office in the same building beside it, "Easy Real Estate" closed down before this shop - maybe they would know who to contact?

Sorry I don't have any contacts/info to offer you; my knowledge of the place is limited to what I've observed driving past. But if I hear I'll let you know.

Good luck!

dam_n, there goes my view of the aerobics classes as I sit at that dam_n intersection waiting for the light to turn green.

Looks like I got lucky. I was going to re-join last week but delayed it because I had a cold.

It was a French guy who owned the place. He also has some kind of real estate business. The gym was quiet but I thought they were beginning to do okay. It was starting to get busy in the evenings and there were always plenty of people at the classes.

The word is that Club Asia Fitness are looking into buying Easy Fitness.

BTW, Club Asia Fitness is only 5-10 min drive from the intersection near Easy Fitness.

Club Asia Fitness is in Royal Phuket City Hotel in Phuket Town (Phang Nga Road). It is a very nice gym but the drive is a bit too far to be handy for me.

The gym is changing hands and should be open soon as buyers are on site. Rumour has it the old owner (some belgian chap) has buggered off leaving loads of debt - the usual story.

Anyhoo, the Thai manager is reachable on the mobile number on the door and he's a top chap. If you hold out a few days (thai time :) it should be ok.

I agree with this but since all the equipment and furnishings have been removed, it doesn't look like anyone will be re-opening it any time soon. Besides the Chalong Gym and the one in Phuket Royal City Hotel there is also a small gym (which I haven't seen) at the Royal Spa & Health Club in Phuket Town, and a high end one at the Royal Phuket Marina.

Wow how do you get debts on a gym at such a nice location?

I knew it was badly run from previous times, but omg.. it's like almost IMPOSSIBLE to lose money with a gym.

if you dont pay the sign up fee, you have to pay like 3000baht for 1 session.

Let people that dont wanna sign up(vacation) pay u 300 per session = 3million baht a year in extra money instead of driving them away.

The people who are willing to fork out even 300B to work out on their vacation are the people that rent nice hotels that have small fitness centers....

The vacations that stay at the "mansion" across the street are usually here on a small budget....

I was just talking about joining that GYM with my wife glad it was just talk with no action :)

There's a very well equipped gym at the Sukko Spa, which, coming from Central towards Chalong Circle, is about 300 metres on the right, after the last traffic lights before Wat Chalong. I believe membership (circa 3,000 baht/month) also gives unlimited access to the swimming pool. Worth checking out.

Simple. Same old deluded Farang story. Charge Western prices outside the beach areas and think enough people will be stupid enough to pay it. If you have Thai overheads then I'm paying Thai prices!

I remember when it first opened I went down to find out the price structure with 3 minted Swedish mates and all 3 just wouldn't pay it saying they don't even pay that in Sweden!

Let's just hope the new owner learns from it. But I doubt it.

but it was always full. that's what i dont get.

it is the worst gym i have been to in my life though. Tons of stuff that looks good to the idiot who'll signup and never go.. but nothing practical for anyone who has the basic knowledge of a 5years old gymnast girl.

I used to frequent it before, half the people there would just watch sports on the tv. do 3 situp and go back to watching it 10mins. Then they'd shower and walk around for 25mins and pat themselves on the back for leaving their house. I had never seen that in any of the 15 gyms i have been a regular of. Well maybe the first 1 i went to, the men were there for playing racketball and tennis so its ok, they've earned it.

What?

The owners never paid for the equipment inside.

After years of trying to get the EZ people to pay for the equipment, the vendor had to go in and take his stuff back.

I feel sorry for the people like the OP that recently signed up, bad situation.
