Hi,

next year i plan a trip to samui. A direct flight from bkk in my eyes is really expensive (10.000 THB by Thai airways / 7.600 THB by bangkok airways) so i am looking for how to go on a other way.

I read about air asia they go from BKK to Surath Thani for just only 3.000 THB, but my question is how to go from Airport surath Thani to my hotel on a easy way without toooo much busy? Is there any Service on Airport surath thani available who can take me direct to Chaweng beach?

The last question is. Anybody know about a Hotel in Chaweng Beach who is close to the beach for around about maximum 1.500 THB (April)? Bungalow would be perfect,Air Con,clean and good.

Greez

Another option is to also try Nok Air to Nakhon Si Thamarat, plane & catamaran combined ticket.

As where to stay, have a look through pictures & hotels here.

It's only cheap if the flights are booked weeks or months in advance. Otherwise the difference is not worth the hassle.

That's not really true is it? The prices stated by thomas are accurate for booking within the next few days. 4000 baht is a substantial saving.

Bus to Nathon from Surat airport is around 380 Baht. Including the ferry.

Get a songtaew from Nathon to Chaweng.

Do not get a taxi .

Yes you will save a lot.

it's low season, there are offers. BA had also one

But OP spoke from next year. Price difference then per way is appr. 1.000 or less considering all aspects and the pricing so far.

There is a bus/boat service from the airport. Perhaps 350 baht or thereabouts.

I will leave the Samuians to recommend you a place to stay.

Can i book this ticket (bus/boat) also by internet or phone? There any webside available also with time table from that transferservice?

Air asia will go 2 times in a day from bkk to surath airport:

7:00-8,10 am

and also

2:20-3:25 pm

and back:

8:45-9:55 am

and

3:55-5:05 pm

I just ask, because I have to know which flight i should catch.

A songtaew would be not that easy for us i think because we will bring all of our suitcases is be with us, and like i still remember the songtaew don´t have much place for store?

You think BA will have promo for April 2011 soon? I think the actually price about 7.500 THB is heavy expensive.

No, but AA probably will be 6.000 then.

As soon as you arrive in Surat by Air Asia there will be transportation to Nathon available. Don't worry. The transportation system in Thailand is fine....it's a country serving tourists since decades.....

Songtheows in Nathon will transport the luggage on the roof for a small fee. Otherwise consider 500 Baht by taxi.

I not been able to get an Air Asia flight including CC booking fee from BKK to Surat or Nakon .. within days to a week etc.. for less than 1800. Add the 250 for bus and ferry ticket to nathon, although it is Nov now so you might be able to prove me wrong. And the 100baht song thaw to lamai/chaweng/bangrak or 500 taxi. Lets stay (optimistically) 2500. More if you got more than 15kg luggage etc.. Book bangkok air 4+ days you get either 3850 or 4000 or 3350 (for early/late flight). However skin't I get I alway seem to go BA (and then moan), but on reflection its saves wasting an extra 5hrs or a day.

In your case your probably looking closer to 2500-3000 baht saving pp round trip, plus 5 hours pissing about (more than 15kg luggage too?). If planning a year in advance and willing to pay 1500 a night. then pay an extra 3000 baht per person and enjoy an extra day. Expat & visa runners perhaps different scenarios.

Why are you making such statements, before even checking the prices? 3000 baht is a standard price with AA. It is still less than 3000 baht for April.

Also, I didn't know that Songthaew started charging for carrying luggage.

Like i said actually the Roundtrip Rate for BA is about 7.500 THB/pP and the AA is just only 3.000 THB/pP for April 2011.

AA i still need + 500 Bus/Fairy + 200 Transort to chaweng for roundtrip= totally for a roundtip 3.700 THB.....that´s nearly 50% from the BA Rate. But in one case you are right, AA just only transport 15 Kilos for free , that´s a point for think.

I know a very bad case of someone who refused to pay 20 THB for carrying the luggage on a songtheow from Nathon to Chaweng. That was over 10 years ago.

I really don't know why people are trying dissuade you from your course of action. Now with ridiculous posts about one way flights. Perhaps so they don't have to mention the 400 baht airport tax on the way out.

Funny they don't mention the cost of getting to and from Samui Airport to your hotel. Often far outstrips the cost of the Songthaew from Nathon.

To be fair Bangkok Airways do have an Early Morning promotion, so it's possible that you can fly return for 6500 baht.

But then AA also have promotions. I booked Surat Thani this year for 261 baht for a return flight including luggage.

In the end it comes down to choice. If I need to be there in a hurry, I will pay B Air to get me there swiftly. I was happy with my choice to pay 261 baht. It got me there safely and I had a romantic ride of the ferry to boot. :)

Because if they are travelling to Samui for a holiday then its a fair assumption to make that theirs days are limited. Given a round trip you can write off the best part of 2 days when flying AA via Surat/Nakon. Yes BA direct from Samui is relatively expensive but if you got a year to save, a few days/week-or-two to enjoy then the extra few thousand round trip (can be narrowed by early/late flights as you suggest) are probably a worthwhile investment for the couple.

I had a romantic ride of the ferry to boo

I dont know which ferry you took.

Forgot to add...there may be an AA sale in a couple of days, so hang on until then.

1minute past midnight on November the 8th or if you like 1rst minute of November 9Th. ;)

If it were a issue for the OP he would be considering it. Posting about a one way flight when the OP is clearly considering a return is also bizarre.

Equally bizarre is your writing of 'short notice' flights when the OP is travelling next year.

Your projection is completely unbalanced. Using maximum prices for Air Asia and minimum pricing for Bangkok Airways. Taxi from the airport can also take 500 baht out of your pocket.

Plus booking ahead with Air Asia can add substantial savings, such as my return flight for 261 baht. So for a couple, the savings can be up to 14000 baht.

Ferry? I was with girlfriend.

Hehe, why have I never had any "romantic" ferry trips.....

I would also recommend spending the extramoney flying with Bangkok Airways direct and save all the hassle.

Othervise flying with Nok Air with their combined catamaran package is probably the next most convenient since you don't need to worry about the transportation from airport on mainland to the island. The catamaran trip is also a lot faster than the slow, boring and diesel stinking ferry ride.

Nok air is available on the web here:

The Nok Air option still takes nearly five hours to Na Thon Pier and you have to get to Don Muang instead of the main airport. For 4000 baht return, you get a 15kg baggage allowance and no food and no time saved over the Air Asia option.

Air Asia is just cheaper. Why would one have to 'worry' about the transportation from Surat Thani airport when there is a perfectly reliable bus/ferry service there when you land.

Seems as if some people are desperately trying to be contrary.

Perhaps their time would be better served helping the OP with his hotel request.

It is also amazing how some people can get really emotionally and really advocating against using Bangkok Airways.

I did forget that Nok Air only provides service from Don Muang, so it would probably not be convenient for OP.

There isn't any mention about "worry" with interconnecting transportation but the hassle involving such. Especially if you got a lot of luggage as well.

By the time you've barely got onto the bus taking you to the ferry, you could be sitting on the beach already.

I do agree that Bangkok Airways charge way too much but still nothing really beats an hour direct flight into Samui.

No one is getting emotional. The OP asked about Air Asia and a hotel. They didn't ask about Bangkok Airways.

The don't need to be patronised by being told that Bangkok Airways is quicker.

So rather than stating the patently obvious, why not help the OP with something that he doesn't know?

Yes, some ideas about hotels would be nice.....thank you.:)
