Blasts From The Past.......Whatever Happened To?

What happened to LaoPo?....our rare polar bear member?

He embarrassed himself by going balistic when there was a database error a couple of years ago and people's post-counts went down. Not only the over-reaction caused him to look silly, but revealing that he placed so much importance over something that most people see as completley insignificant was quite cringeworthy.

Just tried to find it but no joy. Will try again later...

I have deleted a number of posts. while this is a thread where you wish to talk about members from days past, and yes it inevitably brings up some names who may no longer be posting for various reasons. but remember, bedlam or otherwise, please refrain from discussing moderation on the board.

you may raise questions with the MOD in question, or support - as and WHEN appropriate. the key word also being 'when'.

lets not keep on about the past that cant be changed? :)

its almost Friday, lets look forward to the weekend shall we :D

Suegha, because he was the nicest kindest person on here, imo.

Neverdie. Hopefully will not totally lose touch, and he will come back later on. I miss his stuff a lot on here actually.

There was someone else i was going to mention, but its escaped me for now..:/

He was one of two who over reacted, but I didn't think he jumped because of it.

Who was the other?

Oh and the link if you can remember it Moss would be much appreciated. :D

I can only search back to 2010, maybe there is another route, but I cannot fathom it.

Basically, it was because a few of us wanted access to Bedlam in a more contributory way than earning it though posting 50 jokes a day, it didn't go down well with certain members.

However, when implemented those that had contributed in the jokes, riddles etc forums found their post count reduced, so not only was there a rebellion amongst those that were gaining high post counts in these forums upset, but those that had contributed had the counts taken off.

All Hell broke loose with at least three members that I remember being very vocal in their resentment, to my eternal shame, I contributed to to the fuelling, by requesting my post count be added to theirs, as long as I kept 501, I was a little mischievous in them days, hence one persons angst toward me.

Can I have your posts now....I'm so far behind the leader it hurts.

Oops...did I say that out loud? tongue.png

Thanks for the explanation....it all makes sense...although for those contributing top quality jokes I feel your pain...really I do...that must have hurt. laugh.png

Who is the leader nowadays? I remember when it was Toster ( the smiley assasin ) good bloke too, Brit Maverick, big lad association with Oxford, S'John newsworthy didn't quite understand where the the Rapids were and the Doc, ' Don't invest in Thailand what you can't afford to walk away from'.

Great post...evocative of so many memories here...

I remember it slightly differently actually Moss - from my recollection, it was due to a big site database corruption, requiring the whole database to be rebuilt and, in the process, many people's post counts came out lower than before. I think (though not sure if it was confirmed 100%) that the reason for it was because the newly calculated post counts didn't include deleted posts, i.e. the process of restoring post-counts was simply to add up all posts again - thus deleted ones not being counted in the re-count.

There were also other problems lingering for a few weeks after the rebuild, e.g. quotes in posts were messed up for a while, the search wasn't quite right, etc.

This also explains why no-one can search before 2010 - still to this day no-one can search before the date of the big database rebuild.

Ring any bells?

This is correct.

Ring any bells?

No Dan, it doesn't, but I stand corrected regarding the reason for the post count anomaly, you ain't often wrong and I have been known to come out with the odd inconsistency laugh.png

Probably a combo of the two, and then perhaps they decided to use the opportunity to exclude word games from the post count. I think the main grizzle is that it was introduced retrospectively - not the best way of doing things, but probably the most practical. In any case, I'll have to put my hand up to ignorance of more recent information - I hadn't realised that Dr Patpong had left us. But I suppose this happened quite some time ago. As with most of us, I'll be left to wonder why (nope - that's not a request for info)...

However, I would be interested to know why some ex BMs no longer appear in the member list, whereas many other banned members remain listed. Perhaps either by the BM's request or perhaps related to the pre 2010 thing?

He lives where I live. See him regularly.

As for the Gent. Wasn't that Scampy?

The Gent and Scampy are not the same, trust me.

Correctomundo Mossy. Memory lapse on my part there, too many similar nics. I met TheGent on a bash with Scouser several years ago.

Easy mistake, the full name was The Gentleman Scamp

Really ? I mean.. really !?? It was that important ?

The mind boggles ..

the gent wasn;t scampy , scampy is still kickin around bkk somewhere I am told and the gent I havnt heard from in a long while. He lived in phuket and was a fun guy to go out with but if you upset him beware

I liked the cutting wit of Jetty, but I take it back if it offends anyone alive or dead, or ready to point their angst at me. I don't know where my angst is to point it, so I just agree with everybody.

I recall an incident with the gent & elsie turning very nasty & him resorting to fists. not a nice guy if I am recalling rightly?

scampy got on DrPP's ( I think?) nerves so was constantly getting suspended then came back as a "female" poster for a while. really, that boy had waaayyyyy too much time on his hands. :D bluecat was a good poster.

seugha & kayo were nice guys who just sort of faded away, kayo had just got a new french gf when he stopped posting.

Are you sure that was the Gent Boo? I think it was someone else, and from what I can remember it was the head.

The Gent wouldn't do it,

Nothing like being dropped on your head for dulling the senses,

What's the name of that strange Aussie Fireman, talked stupid?
