PHUKET: -- Chalong Police investigating the murder of a 17-year-old girl in her home yesterday suspect the attack was carried out by a neighbor who knew she was there alone.

The police were notified at about 5:30pm by relatives of the victim, 17-year-old Sunisa “Som” Saiyoy, who was found lying face-down on a bed in the family’s detached home in a housing estate off Nakok Road in Chalong.

Som was wearing a green sarong, black bra and white t-shirt, which appeared to have been pulled up by her attacker. An initial examination led police to list the apparent cause of death as strangulation, though a bloodstained hammer was discovered on the bed next to her.

There were signs of forced entry to the aluminum window of her bedroom, one of three in the single-storey home, which was fully enclosed by a gated wall.

On the floor of the home, police found more bloodstains and a pair of red shorts.

Phuket Ruamjai Kupai rescue workers took the victim’s body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy.

Khaneung Saiyoy, the 61-year-old father of the deceased, told the Phuket Gazette that his daughter was home alone that day because she had taken a term off from school due to anxiety and chronic headaches.

Som had been joining her parents at work, selling fruit at Vocational College in Phuket Town. However, yesterday morning she had complained of a headache and asked to stay home and sleep.

Mr Khaneung said he and his wife locked the home and front gate securely before leaving.

Later that day, a young relative went to deliver food to the ailing girl, but his calls to her went unanswered.

After opening the door and discovering Som on the bed, the cousin called Som’s parents and then notified the police.

Anong Intarasuk, Som’s mother, said that as she was leaving that day she did not suspect anything was amiss.

However, she told the Gazette that over the dinner table the night before, Som said to her: “Mother, please don’t die before me, because if you die before me I don’t know who I could live with.”

Som had shown signs of depression and spoke frequently of death since her 17th birthday on July 4, she added.

Police believe Som’s killer lives in the area and must have known she was home alone.

From the physical evidence at the scene it appears he forcibly entered the home with the intent of raping his victim, but stopped the assault when he realized she was menstruating.

Police believe that he then likely decided to kill her to cover up his crime, then ransacked the home in search of valuables.

Officers dusted the scene for fingerprints, which were clearly visible at the point of entry.

would a neighbour in broad daylight try to force himself in?

it makes noise, she would have noticed, seen him, called police...?

he could have knocked, said "hi its me, xyz, we run out of soy sauce"...

she would have opened quite likely?

What a terrible, terrible way for a young lady to go. Crime knows no boundaries, it effects us all regardless of nationality. There is no justice that can ever repair this loss. Terrible, my condolences.

What a shocking story.

Som was wearing a green sarong, black bra and white t-shirt, which appeared to have been pulled up by her attacker. An initial examination led police to list the apparent cause of death as strangulation, though a bloodstained hammer was discovered on the bed next to her.

Did they make their initial deduction within 30 seconds?

This goes beyond the boundary of a "crime" - it is pure evil.

No, they will carry out an autopsy. The report states "initial examination".

With so many young ladies in the "trade" why couldn't this deviant find a willing host to satisfy his affliction?

I'm thinking the murder was an afterthought, having acted on an sexual impulse it was (in his mind) necessary to cover up the crime.

Unless his sole purpose was to kill the defenseless young woman, in which case there is only one way to deal with him.

Very sad but becoming common in Phuket RIP.

Huh? 17 year old girls are commonly killed in their family home, in their own bedroom in Phuket? Really? Where do you come up with this? But I agree, that it a tragic event for her family and may she rest in peace.

I think he means "murder" is becoming very common on Phuket.

I would think Phuket has the worst crime, and fatal motor vehicle accident statistics, per capita, than anywhere else in Thailand, and probably South East Asia.

Police arrest burgler for teen girl's death

PHUKET: A 28-year-old man from Amnat Charoen Province, Kittikun Wonghajak, has been arrested over the death of 17-year-old Sunisa Saiyoi at her home on Tuesday afternoon (July 10).

Police say Kittikun, who has a police record for burglary and robbery, gave confused statements as to how the death took place, and how many people were involved, so they have pulled in a number of his known associates for questioning.

Kittikun, who was arrested in Soi Sukniran in Wichit, where he was living, told The Phuket News that he was acting alone when, on the spur of the moment, he decided to break into the girl's home, using a screwdriver to jimmy open a window.

Thinking no one was at home, he was startled to be confronted by Ms Sunisa. A struggle ensued, during which her clothes became dislodged, he said. This stimulated him and he then held her face-down on the bed and attempted to rape her.

However, having taken drugs before going into the house, he was unable to complete his assault so, after ransacking the house, he left.

It was only later, he said, that he discovered she was dead.

Results of an autopsy on Ms Sunisa have yet to be completed, but police now believe that she suffocated while being held face-down on the bed by Kittikun.

Drugs, drugs, drugs.. I hope the traffickers will be caught and given the penalty they deserve.

Drugs are one main cause of the current 'spurs of the moments'. Kids and olders with Ya ba melted brains can not control their acts anymore.
