A option for Cheap Charlie steak lovers is to go to Big C Extras meat department......They have a good selection of steaks from $$$$ to $...

They will cook them-up right there for you too.....

  • I posted on the other thread (about businesses opening and closing) a few weeks ago about the Pulcinella Italian Risto-Pub that has opened in the former Punch & Judy premises on Soi 17 (Soi Region

  • You have mentioned this in other posts repeatedly???? I know a good short time hotel.

  • Yesterday, went to Welcome Inn on Darkside for Sunday Roast. Had the mixed meat for 260B. Outstanding value and enjoyable meal, could not fault it. Welcome Inn has A/C and had about 6 or 7 punter

Anyone know other decent quality all you can eat salmon sashimi places around Central Pattaya?  Tsunami Sushi ok?

At Tops here in East they also cook for you but not much of a steak selection.

Of course I don't know why Oishi Avenue closed but possibly it's related to the fact that the Oishi Eaterium recently opened down the road at Central Pattaya Beach mall.

There is another brand of sushi buffet at T21 Mall.

In Bollywood Kurry this afternoon for my 5th or 6th meal since they opened.  Luckily I had nearly finished eating when I smelled incense smoke.  The rotund owner had a fistful of joss sticks inside the aircon room where I was the only customer at the time.  I don't like this smell, especially while eating, so quickly gathered up my things and moved to a table in the foyer.  No sooner was I settled, than the owner came out there with his stinky sticks.  When I objected, he got angry and yelled something at me.  I check-binned out of there immediately, never to return.

Tripadvisor aren't keen on them either;

In the US they have (or at least had) “you-buy-we-fry” joints in all the ghettos. You could buy with food stamps and they’d cook it for you and let you it it in the shop...

Krispy Kreme opened their first branch in Pattaya this week. Royal Garden.  Very popular but more expensive doughnuts than the other chains.

I tried them in Bangkok and it tasted better than that sweet stuff they sell at Mister Donut. But plenty of sugar and fat I am sure.

This is bad news for me!  I'll be there tomorrow!

That's a pretty good get for Royal Garden. I'm happy to hear they're making a play to stay relevant. Welcome to mall wars.

Yeah I remember when kk opened near me in the US. So good and so incredibly fattening. They really are next level donuts but my sweets tastes are more on the highbrow level these days.

While KK are comparatively great doughnuts over here, I never really thought they were that far superior to typical US style doughnuts.

I did. Not only superior but quite distinctively different as well. However, when I did eat them, I got them super fresh.

Yeah, their shtick was/is frying the regular glazed continuously so they’re always only minutes old.

They were all the rage when they moved west, but a lot of the people doing the raving hadn’t had a doughnut in ten years...

Would seem the doughnuts are not being made on site, but coming from Bangkok.

Wow very surprised by that, shows how often I go out eating to not even know that. A guy from Belgium ran it and it appeared he was doing okay, though never very busy the few times we've been there the service and food was great but on average 2000 baht/person easily.

There was a mention of health problems, but the main rant on why he was closing was the lack of quality tourists.

We've been through this before. Your take is extreme and doesn't actually reflect the reality. In effect, it's fear mongering.

It is OK to write criticisms such as the pizza wasn't my style, I prefer the burgers at Carls to this place because of such and such, I found the stew too salty, etc. ad nauseum.

What is NOT OK is saying stuff like a large rat jumped on my table while I was enjoying the sushi even if it's actually true that a large rat jumped on your table when you were enjoying the sushi and you have a picture of the rat along with an identifying sign showing the name of the business.

You could say that you ate your meal with a big rat on the table.....And the rat had perfect manors and was delightful.....lol

Hype is what they use to sell them, what’s not to understand?

KK makes the best donuts but back home and I usually only eat them when they have the hot donut light on, they melt in your mouth. The glazed taste almost the same if you microwave the for about 10 seconds. Yes, here they shipped from bangkok but for some reason the chocolate does not taste right. It is an interesting story about how they came to thailand though.

I went through a short KK phase and I only experienced them freshly made. Perhaps people that don't get how amazing they can be simply haven't had them that way. I realized early that a KK habit would result in massive weight gain so I just went cold turkey. If they are only shipping then in here I probably won't be tempted.

If memory is correct I recall the location near me which was off a freeway ramp had a road sign that indicated when they had hot ones so that was the time to take the next exit.

If my memory isn't correct that's a pretty specific detail. Perhaps it was a dream.

New Delhi coming to Pattaya?

The remarkable explosion of Indian restaurants in Pattaya is old news. It's almost ridiculous. Yes, I agree with the general opinion that most of them are not particularly good. But some of them are at least decent.

So what's up?

Two New Delhi chains coming to Pattaya.

I have no idea of the specific business relationships between the Indian companies and these two new places but they are at least suggesting such a relationship.

First one is Chowringhee Lane near the Fascino pharmacy on Pattaya Klang (not North, Klang).

This place is not open yet. The brand specializes in Kolkata style kathi rolls but is from New Delhi not Kolkata.

http://www.34chowringheelane.com/

The second one has recently just opened.

It's Chicken Khurana.

Pattaya Soi 16 between 2nd road (Marine Plaza Hotel) and Walking Street, closer to Walking Street, near Indian night clubs.

This is a nighttime and ALL NIGHT restaurant.

They have a cool looking gaudy sign.

Sadly I have missed trying it two times already as I arrived too early.

Now I know the hours.

They open roughly at 8 P.M. and open all night.

Prices are moderate for the local Indian restaurant market which means cheap Charlies should not apply. They have a surprising complete Northern Indian menu, veg. and non-veg.

They also have Tibetan Momos (dumplings) made fresh, both with chicken and veg.

I tried the Chicken Khurana, it is behind the Tony's disco rear exit or what ever they are calling it these days. It was quite good and I will return but it is not cheap. I had a Thali with non veg and it was 320b. I would guess a curry rice and a naan would be about 450b. I will be going back and I think most indian restaurants here are not very good compared what I have had in india.

I only buy the glazed ones and I do microwave them for 10 to 15 seconds before I eat them.

I bought 2 recently in Bangkok. One I ate once I got back to my hotel which was delicious. The other I did not eat until 2 days later and its texture was like rubber after I microwaved it.

I went by Oishi Eatarium today. I was told buffet is a whopping 812 baht! Even my girlfriend who really misses Oishi Buffet says it's too much.

I was surprised they didn't have some kind of opening time promotion. I agree it's quite expensive. Perhaps they will during a lower season.

Thanks for that. I had a feeling it was going to be a good one. I will try it sometime as well when their opening hours work for me.

The Kitchen - Pattaya Beach Road

Popped into the Pattaya branch of the chain at beach road, near the entrance to walking street. Fully expected a touristy experience and had it.

We ordered parma ham on bread for appetizer, a 300g ribeye for mains with sechuan sauce and potato wedges. First service: busy, effective enough but almost managed to skewer my wife by dropping a steak knife in their hurry. Locale: It's a shop house sized place, they were running the fans full which resulted in our food getting cold before we managed to finish it. Noisy but expected for the location. Customers: Mix of Chinese, some Farang, Arabs, etc. Food: Parma ham was good, the bread looked and tasted like it was from BigC. Steak was ok, cut into pieces and cooked medium, the potato wedges were a bit of the soft side but ok, sichuan sauce looked and tasted like brown gravy with a couple of stale sechuan peppers from Makro thrown in.

Not impressed, especially as the tab came up to almost 1500 baht. 6/10. Much better options available in Pattaya.
