Meteor Is Not Related Pffffff.

Just wondering how scientist can claim that the meteor that fell in Russia is not related to the DA14 meteor that came close to earth.

It came around the same time and is obviously of the same pack. How can they claim 'it was just a coincidence'...?

It seems like a total lapse of common sense or an outright lie for some reason.

The asteroid that missed the Earth presumably came from the Asteroid Belt, a mass of rocks that encircles the Sun beyond Mars.

The meteor which exploded over Russia may have come from the asteroid belt, but is more likely to have been an odd bit of rock travelling through the galaxy, rather than being tied to the Sun's attraction.

“Those aren’t meteors falling, it’s the Americans testing new weapons,” Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, told journalists several hours after the Emergencies Ministry began issuing statements on the incident, which has injured hundreds and damaged scores of buildings.

I think they are of the same group.

Too much of a coincidence, the odds are too great.

Graphic: Russian meteor impact explained

A 10 ton meteor has hit the atmosphere above the Russian city of Chelyabinsk causing hundreds of injuries and widespread damage to houses, schools and hospitals in the area.

Up to 1,000 people were reported to be injured, two seriously, with another 100 taken to hospital for treatment.

According to the Russian Academy of Sciences the meteorite was "very strong" and probably made of iron.

The meteor is estimated to have hit the atmosphere 32 miles above the earth at 10-13 miles per second.

Another meteor sighted in Florida.

Florida meteor

Doesnt make sense that 3 space objects have come to earth within a short period of time.Whats funny is that they didnt see the Russian one coming but now know its trajectory? Doesnt add up.

Millions of meteors occur in the earth's atmosphere daily (Wiki). Most of them are about the size of a pebble, and disintegrate in the atmosphere. Even those larger are rarely observed, because they occur in daylight or in remote places.

The Russian one is exceptional. The Florida one is 'run of the mill'.

Asteroids and meteors are completely different types of object, as HB says.

nevermind, you guys dont get it.

It may just be that scientists know something about science. Of course, common sense beats that any time.

I wonder what the chances are of being hit by space junk against the chances of being hit by a meteor ?

Don't worry, onionluke, you won't feel anything.
