Now We Have Compassionate Bush

Featured Replies

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush beseeched a gathering of conservatives
in remarkably frank terms on Friday night to change the course of the
Republican Party and to become a more diverse, welcoming and
understanding party to minorities and low-income Americans.

Bush, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference annual
dinner, made the heart of his speech a call to the GOP to "learn from
past mistakes." He made his case in some of the bluntest language he has
used.

"All too often we’re associated with being 'anti' everything," Bush
said. "Way too many people believe Republicans are anti-immigrant,
anti-woman, anti-science, anti-gay, anti-worker, and the list goes on
and on and on. Many voters are simply unwilling to choose our candidates
even though they share our core beliefs, because those voters feel
unloved, unwanted and unwelcome in our party."

and some serious heresy.....

And Bush also threw cold water in the face of conservatives who
espouse a strict up-by-the-bootstraps doctrine of individual
responsibility, and who ascribe failure only to personal failure. Life,
he said, is increasingly more difficult for those who aren't born with
built-in advantages.

"It is not a validation of our conservative principles if we can only
point to the increasingly rare individual who overcomes adversity and
succeeds in America," Bush said. "Here’s reality: if you’re fortunate
enough to count yourself among the privileged, much of the rest of the
nation is drowning.

"In our country today, if you’re born poor, if your parents didn’t go
to college, if you don’t know your father, if English isn’t spoken at
home, then the odds are stacked against you. You are more likely to stay
poor today than at any other time since World War II," he said.

Jeez....a republican with a brain. ohmy.png

The actual saying is...If you are not a Democrat when you are in your twenties you have no heart. If you are not a Republican when in your thirties, you have no brain.

The actual saying is...If you are not a Democrat when you are in your twenties you have no heart. If you are not a Republican when in your thirties, you have no brain.

The earliest known version of this observation is attributed to mid-nineteenth century historian and statesman François Guizot:

Not to be a socialist at 20 is proof of want of heart; to be one at 30 is proof of want of head.

Variations on this theme were later attributed to Disraeli, Shaw, Churchill, and Bertrand Russell. (I misquoted Churchill to this effect for years.)

Alas, it's all hot air - the Republicans should not be trying to appear as Democrats but to differentiate itself from the mismanagement and delusion of the current government. Why not point out the fraudulent unemployment stats? The fact that even if the government taxed all citizens at 100% of their income they still would not be able to cover outgoings. Why not warn on the U.S dollar losing it's position as world reserve currency would collapse the value of the dollar. Why not point out that Obamacare and a mountain of red tape mean the U.S now has higher business taxes than anywhere in the developed world.

In other words don't let the Democrats and their press lackeys control the dialogue, but just point out reality, however uncomfortable it may be.

Romney did all that and failed miserably. Americans don't like republicans because they come off as haters. I am happy that the republicans don't have a clue on how to fix their problems. I don't expect to see another republican president -- EVER.

Much the same applies in the UK. The electorate understood that the socialist plan had failed again (it always does!), but now that we have Camoron in power, and the biting austerity he has imposed to claw back the hundreds of billions of debt, the press and the chorus of commentators are back to the spend, spend, spend songsheet. And the public are following the score.

Obviously the current Euro bail-out of Cyprus has made people sit up and take notice, but I cannot see which way that will go. If everyone in Spain and Italy makes a run on the bank, we'll see a lot of Europe collapse. Which will be no good for anyone as the trade will collapse along with the economy.

The root cause of all this is that there is no perfect way of conducting the economy, due to greed blinding common-sense in many people. And there being billions too many people on this planet.

We need to get back on a similar base to the gold-standard, where actual wealth of businesses and countries can be accurately judged. The American habit of printing more dollar bills when they need to pay a debt, without any substantial backing for those bits of paper, has screwed the world economy. Britain did the same, the EUro has no basis of value, yet we continue to put our faith into them because there is no practical alternative. Nowadays currency is just bits of paper. We need to have currencies that represent a true value of wealth (and the wealth in the world is a finite quantity).

He failed because the partisan media shilled for Obama. They will bear responsibilty for his failures.

Romney did all that and failed miserably.

The media made people vote the way they did? Typical republican denial. I love it!

A shill, also called a plant or a stooge, is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that he has a close relationship with that person or organization.

Charles Krauthammer's brain is superior to any democrat.

Charles K.'s brain is superior to any Libtard's brain hands down! biggrin.png

Doesn't Dubya look compassionate?

Straight-up question for those who tend to think my posts are trolling:

2013-04-25-HIIND.jpg

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum
opens today. Of the over a million pictures of him
we like this one the best. Congratulations President Bush
and.....yes...we miss you.

Compassionate? No. He does look like he's exaggerating his package though. coffee1.gif

Do I miss him? w00t.gif That's like asking if I miss crab lice. sick.gif

He is better than what we have in office now.

Exaggerating his package? No. If you had to wear a parachute harness, or a full-body safety harness, every day, as I used to, you would know how damned uncomfortable they can be and how everyone has their own way of adjusting the thing to fit more comfortably.

The way Dubya is wearing his would be OK for 15 minutes or so, but he'd having a lot of chafing marks and yelp when he got in the bath. But everyone to their own, I suppose.

(I used a cricket box most of the time)

He is better than what we have in office now.

That's a given.

But even Obama praised Dubya yesterday at the Bush Library presentation.

Obama was just being diplomatic. That's what presidents always do at events like this with ex-presidents.

In retrospect, George W. Bush’s legacy doesn’t look as bad as it did when he left office. It looks worse.

Obama used the platform to bash the GOP on Immigration:

Obamaimmigration.png?w=420?w=420

"At the opening of the George W. Bush
Presidential Library, President Obama and former President Clinton took
to the podium to praise Bush – and in the process, stump for their
version of immigration reform. Trying to leverage Republicans into
handing over their principles by suddenly singing odes to the president
he labeled the root of all evil, President Obama gushed over Bush
“reaching across the aisle to unlikely allies like Ted Kennedy” with
regard to his immigration reform effort."

In his speech President Bush made the absolute definitive statement that leaders are defined by the convictions they hold. Can't find any argument with that.
