Why Cannot Pay With Us Dollar In Thailand?

Featured Replies

What is your opinion about this?

In Lao Cambodia and most other country's payment is the us dollar, but why not in Thailand ?

Its a proper country is why.

Try paying in Texas with Indian rupees.

Yawn time....

  1. Because the Thais are too chauvinistic.
  2. Because there are very few Thais who will give the correct exchange rates, as they are unaware of anything that is not Thai-based.
  3. Because Thais do not trust any foreigner to give them something genuine, as they would not give anything genuine to a farang.

If you want to spend US Dollars - and get value for money - go to VietNam. You may use dollars in the main cities, and probably receive slightly more than the official exchange rate from shops, hotels and restaurants/bars.

The girls (& others) working Nana Plaza, Cowboy, Pat Pong etc will be glad to take your USD. smile.png

Dollarization is working out very well for Ecuador.

Thailand has a proper currency, that's why. You can pay with THB in Laos. Can you pay with USD in Europe or Japan?

Dollarization went well for Zimbabwe, because they couldn't manage their own currency. The Cambodian government is having campaigns (with limited success) encouraging their citizens to use Riel.

The US $ isn't worthy of wiping ones butt these days...

That does not say a lot for the Euro and British pound.

When I was a young lad the pound was worth four dollars.

But my ambition when I started work was to earn a thousand pounds a year - which was what newly-qualified architects got paid with my first employer - after three-to-five years training.

Being purveyor of the world's reserve toilet paper does have it's advantages.

So have I - in the UK. Not golden - I've not come across any solid gold ones, although I have installed gold-plated ones. And ones that use hot water. Plus heated toilet seats, dispensers that supply paper to cover toilet seats (present in most Saudi Aramco toilets) and the Toyo ones that peek out from under the toilet seat as you turn the faucet.

I love bum guns.

They changed my life, that's for sure.
