So the top cop announced that the price for a parking spot on a public road in Phuket will get higher next month ? That is what i read between the lines.

Mafia, police, city hall all the same. All shake an the tree for their "share" of the money.

What's going on is that law enforcement is not a priority for the cops. They have other pressing issues.

Lots of arrests in the local news and not just motorcy drivers for helmet violations.

We can only see if we open our eyes to alternative thinking.

Instead of only dealing with Phuket, how about getting something done about the double and triple parking all over Thailand.

Tire clamps being put on motorscooters on Pattaya Tai at 1600 hours, in violation of parking restrictions. Go BIB. Scofflaws beware!

Took photos too. Counted 8 clamped and the rest drove off or didn't think it wise to park there. LOL

“Phuket doesn’t have a big mafia problem,” Gen Ong-art said.

There is still something happening, but at least at http://phukettuktuks.com/ there seems to be less news at the moment.

This was dated at 1st of October 2013. The previous report on that site was on April 2013. Maybe the site manager is not so much involved yet, or there has been a real change for the past months.

I see as soon as there are to Ozzies the 10 Thais scatter Lmfoa Brave souls indeed!

He doesn't have a big problem with it since he is already a member of Thailand's largest criminal "mafia" gang!

i think it was gun actually

Although I always remain skeptical when a Phuket official promises action of any kind, this is a good initiative. Not only should residents and tourists have parking available so they can provide the tea money shop owners need to pay to the mafia...I mean...so tourists can shop...but these small pushes against the taxi d-bags is kind of how sumo wrestlers fight in Japan -- a constant stream of small pushes that eventually wins them the match.

I hope this is a small victory that leads to a taxi service in Phuket that is fairly priced, safe, hoodlum-free and not making tourists feel afraid to park in legal parking areas that have been overtaken as taxi-driver power-nap areas.

And while they're at it, could they also do this up in Pattaya with the motorcycle taxi sloths?

Those chaps in the white shirts looked like cowards indeed. They are going to be the downfall of their own greed and arrogance. I've taken Phuket off my list and return vists and have warned all my friends to avoid the place. Too bad the thugs are ruining things for the law abiding and nice Thais trying to make a living.

My hat off to that Aussie. I wish I were young enough to give a good beating to some of those dirt bag pussies like he did in that video. God I hate those guys with the intensity of a sun gone supernova.

If this cop was sincere, he would have said:

Any of my police officers, caught colluding with the transport mafia, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Did notice fewer Tuk-tuks parked on the beach road in Patong, maybe just luck?

The straw that broke the camels back for me living on Phuket (after 6 years) was one morning in Karon I stopped at a 711 as you depart heading north. It was 7:30AM and I stopped to stock up on water etc for a drive to Hua Hin. The only vehicle parked on the 200M or so stretch of road was a tuk tuk, I parked behind him and the missus headed over to the shop. The driver who'd been sleeping in the back of his tuk tuk then came out and started shouting abuse at me for parking near him?? When my missus returned she tried explaining to the little <deleted> we'd stopped for 5 minutes to go to the shop, his response was to start putting traffic cones which had been at the side of the road round my car. I hope he didn't take offence to me squashing a couple of them when driving away.

2 months later I was living elsewhere on Thailand. Between house & car rents, spending in restaurants & bars and general other expenditure I'd imagine Phuket was US$50k or so worse of for my departure. I know this is a mere drip in the ocean in the grand scheme of things but not giving these people a penny of my hard earned gives me plenty satisfaction.

As for the new head police guy, I'll believe his rhetoric when it happens, banning these idiots completely would be a more positive approach to improving Phuket's image.

i had the same experience here in pattaya,i went to big c to p/u my wife who had a broken foot and on cruches i parked and sat on my scooter in between meter taxi's who imediatley flashed thier brights and yelled and generally ''chimped out'' i refused to move and after one physically gestured to puch me my gal arrived ,as she hobled to my scooter on her cruches '''she then gave them a god old fashioned toungue lashing''...god these drivers are the lowest of the low....

I love Thailand, and generally speaking I love Thai people, but 8 versus 1 is just cowardly and kudos to the Aussie for pulling a gun because apparently this is the only way to teach them apart from beating the shit out of them!

Let's not start the discussion about this illegal Aussie taxi driver again shall we?

I wasn't about, too!

Why don't you just apply for moderator job, instead of just being a member who constantly berates and corrects peoples minor mistakes?rolleyes.gif

They were probably called away to a blockade somewhere. I'm sure they will be back. :) :)

^ I think many share your dream.

FYI tuk tuks don't run on LPG, they run on petrol.

Can't speak for Phuket as my memory fails me however in Bangkok there are several running on LPG.

If you can't speak for Phuket, whu bother posting in a thread here, which is clearly about Phuket. And no, no LPG tuktuks here.
Because he is entitled to.

Yes, but it seems many get entitlement and obligation confused.

What about the other side of the road which is almost exclusively taken over by the car & bike rentals? All they really need is one bike & one car to display along with photos of the rest of their fleet. When someone signs up for a rental just radio someone to bring the vehicle.

That's logical, a concept unknown in the Kingdom.

Plus the tour busses that love to block the street & the boxing stadium touts that conjest the place.....

The solution for wrong parking motorbikes, cars and tuk tuk. Also very effective for mafia control.

They could also do something similar for the tuk tuks which would be fair to all concerned but this concept is rapidly disappearing beneath the me me society. Properly set up all drivers would still be in a queue but just have to wait elsewhere until they are called in. If it can be shown that they will not lose money then the logic of it might just sink in.
