Yes, she fled to the jungle and the only group to offer her protection and support were the communists. She had no other option. It was flee or end up raped and dead in a field. She hid out for 6 years enduring hardship and suffering, all because she believed in democracy. She was non violent and it has never ever been alleged that she engaged in any acts of violence. She is the one UDD leader who has remained firm in her belief in non violence.

GK. So your rewriting history again again. Thida was a member of the Communist party before the uprising.

But you are correct she is the ONLY UDD leader to not talk violence. Possibly because she became leader AFTER 2010 and learns from others mistakes!

She was a social democrat, not a communist. She, like many other Thais were pushed into the welcoming arms of the Thai communists thanks to the draconian military dictatorship of the era. Thailand was an oppressive country during that period squashing any attempt at an attempt to modernize and liberalize society. Anyone who opposed the dictatorship was branded a commie. It was a convenient way to deal with those who spoke in favour of democracy.

They're all social democrats until they get the power. Then the true communist genie comes out of the bottle.

IMO Suthep should be branded the next near Communist, don't like farangs, don't like people from the North, don't like people from the East only seems to like himself and his own means. If this galah gets into power or gets a peoples democracy like he has stated, we are going to be in some deeper poo then normal , ie NOW!

UDD has played a great hand in keeping quite. Suthep and media only calling them out as they want the reds in bangkok to give the army a pretext to come in.

They showing that this week PT has weathered the Court and Media combined assault on democracy and reminding the Army of the big problems they WILL have if they Coup.

PM looking stronger and as the media is at 100% propaganda level, she can only gain strength from it. Well done again.

Courts are backfooted today and have a protest on their steps of people demanding the Courts reform first!! Bet they didn't intend for themselves and the Media to be caught up in this reform. Media will self reform as we will all stop reading the guff they right once this coup plot is put to bed. Nation might get a few sales from deluded expats at the low end beer bar level, but nothing else after insulting our intelligence like this.

There will be more at this meeting than are left with Suthep... even on his big 1,000 man march on tuesday.

There may be more there but they will be paid to be there. The bits about not having the army but having people available etc etc is a not very thinly veiled threat. According to an article a couple days ago, according to several investigators who visited the families and areas, all of the farmer suicides (as I recall there were 11) were non-rice pledging related. They were all the result of either prior mental illness or other bad debt problems which they had taken on. Look it up in the Bangkok Post and elsewhere.

However, If you believe this is all a whitewash and fabricated by some gov''t entity,, then that is your right to not trust those reporting these stories. Who then do you really trust to feed the information on political developments?

I can't even talk or discuss anything like this with my neighbour who is a Red Shirt or certainly pro Thaksin.

I tried to explain to her that somewhere in this current mess there are points common to all sides and that there are probably people from many sides sitting quietly in rooms somewhere talking to the other side over a beer and food trying to find that common ground. Not Yingluck or Suthep but senior people 3 or 4 rows behind them on both sides who can see what is happening to the country and the people and are frightened of what may come in the near future and want to stop it before it goes too far.

I tried talking to her again this evening and she kept talking over me so I just said goodnight and went home.

My wife sensibly ignores both of us and refuses to take a side.

Historical when the fascist invaded Red territory the fascist suffer some of its greatest defeat , which by 1945 were massive defeats, The red shirts would be a force not to mess with!

Chances are you live in a city like I do, which is vehemently yellow. And when they want to have an upcountry rally to show how populist they are they come here (sorry not lomsak) but in fact it is a yellow city in a red province. I imagine yours is too.

Another Chinese Southerner who is hated by the people in the South. Why can't Isaan people find leaders of their own instead of these Southern transplants like Jataporn, Nattawut and Veera who only use them for their own ends?

Thida joined the Communist Party of Thailand but claims she rejected their ideology, even though she was selected for special training in Hanoi with the other hard core leaders. She is riding on the coat tails of the red shirts until the time is right to ditch Thaksin and the other capitalist scum and start a proper Maoist revolution.
