The crime scene where a group of Thai teenagers allegedly stabbed a German bar owner to death, Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui 20 August 2014.

SURAT THANI — A group of Thai teenagers allegedly stabbed a German bar owner to death this morning on the popular tourist island of Koh Samui.

Police say the 46-year-old German man was an owner of 99 Beer Bar on Chaweng Beach, one of the island's well-known entertainment districts.

According to witnesses, the deceased and his Thai girlfriend were in the parking lot of a nightclub on Chaweng Beach when they encountered three teenagers sitting and drinking alcohol on the German's motorcycle, witnesses said.

The German man reportedly became angry and began arguing with the teenagers. The three Thais lost their temper, punched the German in his face, beat him with beer bottles, and stabbed his neck with shards of glass, witnesses say.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack, witnesses told police. Medical workers say the victim died from stabbing wounds. Khaosod English is withholding the name of the deceased until it is confirmed that his relatives have been informed.

Police in Koh Samui say they are investigating CCTV footage from the area of the crime scene to identify and arrest the three suspects.

watching violence on TV and on all the Available DVDs plus playing mostly violent video games and adding alcohol with friends showing off you have the recipe for murders not only in Koh PhanGan the naughtiest but even in Koh Samui like often in the old days prior its airport opening but all over Thailand being non educated to be added.

Shame for the Smiles so fake seen all around.

So sad incident that should have never happened ending with this death.

The three boys are accomplices and the murderer looking for his all life to be ruined.

What a terrible way to go.....RIP

Terrible news. R.I.P

These young gangs are becoming more and more common. It's no longer safe to go out around these night venues.

Watch out ,most killers smile before they kill.

Land of smiles?

German man had every right to be angry at the kids. Imagine if a group of farangs sat on a Tuk Tuk or other Thai owned vehicle. But getting angry seems to almost always lead to the inevitable beating/stabbing/killing. They might have had a previous run in with the victim.

That is part of it, but a lot of the blame lies with the parents, many of which just don't seem to make any effort to instill values and morals in their children. Violence in general is also to do with the incredible levels of corruption that run throughout Thai society.

Your life is not safe, everyday a farang dies. Good job.

We are looking at 2x 15 years jail and 1x 30 years jail.

Lucky we have a General now.

So that's what you will do if I sat on your bike?

What if the smile doesn't work? What's your next approach?

R.I.P to the 46-year-old German man sincere condolences to his family and friends what a gruesome way to be murdered by some ignorant morons fuelled up with alcohol the only time a Thai youth is brave enough to tackle anyone a big gang of fellow Thais and drink or drugs then I am a hero.

First RIP to the poor gentleman. If the smile does not work walk away and come back later when they are gone. I have only lived in Thailand for 4 years but I know that it is not a great idea to be agressive with a Thai and risk him losing face especially when mixed with alcohol and we all know the consequences of that. It seems that violence is the first resort for most Thai men and I for one intend not to provoke it.

A good question.

Since he was with his Thai gf, there was no language barrier.

You would have to tackle the problem or get a taxi home.

Getting angry in Thailand is never the right approach though.

It should never have happened.

RIP

I doubt that they get the punishment they deserve, 99 at least.

More likely 500 Baht and a "please don't do it again"

Reality is that NOTHING will change untill the local government and police take those cases seriously. So maybe freaking out at the guys was not the best idea, still that was no reason for em to kill him. Thailand doesn't give a flying f about us and as much as I like the place I am really not sure if it is the place that I would want to call my home. I've travelled a lot and the place I felt safest at was Cuba for the simple reason that no one would be stupid enough to hurt a tourst as their local government would make sure they disappear. I guess things in TH have not gotten bad enough and they have not lost enough money to wake up. Hopefully with the way things are going it won't be long before they see the light...

The cultural barrier is down and no longer protects the arrogant white man__he caused these young punks to lose face and paid the price. Yes, alcohol is great stuff for murder -- remember, it diminshes ihibitions. Best take heed.

Shame for the Smiles so fake..... The land of smile, the smile of cheating.

The Land Of Smiles would be better named The Land Of Two Faces.

Someone sitting on your bike, happened to me before, just smile at them, they move off, and you get on with your life

You have your team of security guards available, which as a bar owner you should have anyway, and you administer a severe bodily admonition to the three. Now that's more like it.

What a terrible way to go.....RIP

Yes indeed. Groups of people, fueled by alcohol or other substances is great reason to exercise extreme caution when interacting with them.

I was trained to back off and call for reinforcements. In this case, it seems that the murdered man may have succumbed to emotion in lieu of backing off. I don't know I wasn't there.

Stay safe folks and walk away with your life.

RIP dear man.

A possible option. Unfortunately, a reaction of violence often results in magnified violence in kind.

Another apologist for the unacceptable behaviour of Thai youth (and their elders).

Why is it never the Thai's fault ?

Are you that desperate to live in or just like Thailand that you'll put up with a never ending shafting at the behest of thugs and lawless teens ?

Sad but the way things are these days, now it has mostly gone to sh*t.
