Wanted Russian attempts to Bribe Pattaya Immigration Police

russia-1.jpg

PATTAYA: -- On Thursday Night, Immigration Officers detained a 32 year old Russian who is wanted in his native country in relation to a theft case dating back to 2010.

Police arrested Mr. Andrey Tsirp at the front of Soi 6 on the Pratamnuk Road, just before 7pm. The Russian Embassy had earlier requested Immigration to locate and arrest the man so he could be returned to Russia to face charges of theft.

When he was taken to the Immigration Office in Jomtien checks were made and Mr. Tsirp was found to possess an expired visa in his passport which stated he was permitted to remain in Thailand until 14th September.

During questioning Mr. Tsirp is alleged to have offered officers 700,000 Baht in cash to secure his release. The alleged bribe was not accepted and it was decided to charge him with attempting to bribe a Royal Thai Police Officer and Visa Overstay.

Must have broken their little hearts not being able to take the 700k. Had to send him back to Putin instead.

Shocked it did'nt work. Well looks like its bye bye....

What can you do with 700000 baht nowadays in Thailand? Can't bribe an immigration officer, can't buy a false testimony! tongue.png

But did they confiscate the 700kBaht as a device of criminal action - that the story does not tell w00t.gifcheesy.gif

Freedom has been given to express opinions above but please be aware of crossing into the dangerous territory of libelous or defamatory remarks which can lead to criminal and civil charges brought against the forum and/or its members which is why this forum rule exists ...

6) You will not post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to suffer harm. It does not have to be false to be defamatory. Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in Thailand.

If necessary any posts deemed to contravene that rule will be removed for everyone's protection. Thank you

He must have really pissed off the RTP for them to charge him with attempted bribery. This is almost unheard of in this country.

Is this a story to show that the cops are are honest and can't be bribed?

I told him many times, use dollars Euros or baht if you have to, but never try to bribe

them with Rubles....

If it were a simple overstay - he might not have had problems like this (depends on who he is dealing with), but with an outstanding warrant from another country for criminal activity.... it was probably just not worth it. They probably just felt it was best to get the foreign criminal out of the country. In cases like this there are just too many hands that must be greased to make it worth taking 700,000 and leaving a criminal on the streets. Best to secure the 700,000 in evidence lockup and deport the criminal and blacklist him. If in the future he wishes to return to face trial - then they still <cough, cough> have the evidence to convict him -- of course he has to get in the country first :o

The offer of a bribe was made but nowhere does it mention that such an amount of cash was actually there at hand and thus speculating on what might or might not happen to such money is just that - speculation. Again. you are reminded of the above moderator comment on libel and defamation laws and forum rules covering that.

FOUR posts have already been removed due to that.

I am concerned that the forum system is a little one sided. The bad guys can do what the hell they like and merchants can provided crap service but we are not allowed to make any comment which might 'harm' them??

Somebody needs to start a blog which collates complaints about such people and services.

I for one am glad that this forum is properly moderated. I'd like an alcohol lock as well, just to stop me from spurring my thoughts while under the influence, would make a neat preventative measure from brainfarts you might later regret whistling.gif

He fell into the "hot potato" bin where no amount of bribing within his means will work.

It was most likely being taped. If not he would be out walking free with a new 30 stamp.

Another quality tourist that can afford to offer a bribe of 700K but cant afford to do a visa run. Probably got the money from skimming ATM cards.

I think our new Prime Minister might have a few worried when it comes to corruption of any kind now he just has to look into it a bit further !

No, No .......everyone is reading this wrong.

The Russian will be relieved of his money anyhow.

No need to take a bribe rather the money in question will somehow someway end up in the hands of the police officers involved.

The events that happened, as such, look good for the police.

Cheers

Not quite; in cases like these you need a connected thai to vouch for you

He apparently did not have that

Do not speculate about blogs that do not exist.

Are you sure it was bhat that he offered and not rubels?
With 700K bhat he can get away with anything almost.
Two options: since he was asked to be arrested by embassy with a proper tip of his where abouts ( I'm sure someone was following him all the time and was maintains communication with Russian Embassy) and right after the arrest the russain embassy was notified thus it gave them no option but to arrest and detain.

( just thoughts by the way)
I mean it's unusual for Thailand not to accept the bribe....

....I guess one has to know how to do it....???

...otherwise some other calculation is factored in....???

Theft in 2010 ???

That must have been something he stole, they want his butt for theft in Russia 4 years ago?

sometimes where it makes sense, and could get troubles,

you have to show !! the show !! we have him !! we are the good ones !!

As if a Thai Policeman would ever accept a bribe regardless how small it was do people not realise Thai Police have standards.
