My beautiful 2559 (next year) tax disk was stolen from my motorbike. Anybody any idea as what to do? Going to the tax office to get a new one? Report to then police beforehand? Thanks!

I don't know what you can do about the missing one, though the details of payment are also in the log book (Green book), which may be of help.

What we do to avoid things like this, is to make photocopies of the tax disc and log book - and keep THEM in a plastic envelope inside the MC, so we can keep the originals at home. It's (perhaps) also more handy, should your MC be stolen!

Might be worth considering next time

Having to do the same thing. Get police report then go to same office to pay for new one. As you've already paid, guessing you won't have to pay the compulsory insurance again.

Copies of tax disc are not accepted by the police. At least not in my case at a police check point. Fined 300 baht for not displaying a 'proper' sticker. I guess it just depends on the mood of the day.

Same here. I got a ticket when the real sticker was in the glove box. The bike was illegally parked which lead to police interest and the original parking ticket. Gf went down to the police station and pleaded my case. They told her it has to be displayed. Guilty as charged on both counts.

There is a difference here in Thailand between the type of police reports. You should get them putting your story in their 'daily register report'

บันทึกประจำวัน, rather than submitting a complaint and requiring an investigation. It can be only submitted to the police station in jurisdiction of the area where it happened. once you did that, you can ask for the copy of the police 'daily register report' which can serve as evidence that you reported it.

Yes, you're probably right about that - TIT! tongue.png

Still, for me it beats losing the tax disc (then the missing disc could also incur a fine!) - and should the bike get stolen, then you lose everything.... Actually, I thought that having to display the tax disc had been done away with, maybe I'm just dreaming ....

As yet, I haven't been stopped for licence/tax disc check in the (soon) 7 years of living in this area.... In Pattaya I expect it's a daily occurrence .....whistling.gif

The principal offence here is driving while in possession of a white face, punishable by a fine of 200 baht or a ticket to redeem your licence; depending on who's watching.

Go to local cop shop, pay 20 baht , get letter from desk clerk, go to motor registry, do the appropriate paperwork, wait patiently, collect new sticker.

Use lots of rubber cement to attach the new sticker to the side of your bike. Lots of layers, especially if the bike is cleaned with a high pressure hose.

The copy of my 2558 sticker got nicked on CMU grounds a few weeks ago. The day before expiration date ! LoL

When driving into a road inspection, that had some 30 Volunteers, elsewhere earlier, the Volunteer in charge of investigating me and the bike looked at the little tube, saw the 2558 displayed and opined "that is OK then".

I've had a couple go missing over the years. I've never bothered as the fine isn't worth the effort to replace it, I've just waited until renewal time.

Both times from those tube things, the first time they unscrewed it and politely returned the screw to my bike. The second time they just snapped it off.

It's not really surprising they get nicked. Whilst waiting outside a Hospital for the Mrs today i walked along a row of 27 Motorbikes parked up and only found three with current tax stickers. One bike had one on it which expired in 2551 ! Would imagine it's people like this who nick them and stick them on their own bikes. After all; what meandering Policeman is actually going to bend down and try to read the number on it ?

Mine came unstuck and fell off (or stolen) a year ago. Went to land transport and explained and they issued new one for 20 Baht. I did have copy though and it is indorsed in your green book.

I was always under the impression you had to carry the original with you, and with a car it is to be displayed.

I agree that is the way to go with the green book.
