CHIANG MAI: -- Local residents and officials in Tambon Mae Tha in Chiang Mai's Mae On district will today welcome Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is scheduled to present some 2,000 families with 7,282 rai (1,164 hectares) of land for home and agriculture use.

The ceremony, to be attended by 1,000 people, will be held at Huai Sai School. Besides wanting to see the premier in person, the villagers plan to tell him their community problems and proposed solutions such as construction of reservoirs and roads.

Beware of junta leaders bearing gifts, sorry Costas.

No populist policies ?

may his eyes burn from the smog today so he takes it seriously... but maybe he is a tough guy and it won;t bother him.

Yes you can call it a populist policy, but this doesn't hurt the Thai coffers neither the Thai taxpayer, as per the previous government with the rice scheme and others.

The land is not in use, so it is a good idea to be distributed amongst the needy.

As about bearing gifts......he hasn't got any aspirations of carrying on with politics after the elections..........whenever that will happen..........1 year......10 years......nobody really knows....................

Any idea how the "needy" were selected?

And no aspirations to continue in politics- hmm. But did note you qualified that with 10 years. (-:

The land around Huay Sai and Mae On is getting really expensive now .......... I wonder how much of this donated land will come onto the market shortly ?

Smart move.

He's beating the Shinawatras at their own game.

I doubt that up here

Smart move.

He's beating the Shinawatras at their own game.

Didn't he spoke negatively about the Shin and their populist policies.

He's learned all he knows from Thaksin

I guess he drove by our house on the way to the boondocks. Talk about a never-ending parade of SUVs with blacked out windows.
