PM not disappointed with results of TIP Report

BANGKOK, 31 July 2015 (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has confirmed that the Thai government is urgently tackling the problem of human trafficking to the best of its abilities. The PM also expressed readiness to cooperate with all countries and organizations to eradicate human trafficking.

Gen. Prayut on Friday said in his weekly TV program that the government had monitored the U.S' Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report for 2015 and knew the results before the report was officially announced. He said he was not disheartened and disappointed that Thailand was ranked in the lowest Tier.

The PM stated further that Thailand accepted international regulations and it would continue to resolve its human trafficking problem seriously.

This is a very disheartening statement. Either he is very out of touch, does not care much, or is manifesting that fake national pride again. He should be very disheartened. He should be embarrassed. He should feel humiliated. He should feel ashamed of his fellow Thais who are participating in this atrocity. He should be doing everything in his power to eradicate this problem. That means arresting every boat captain with even a single slave on board, sentencing them to between 10 years to life in prison, confiscating every boat involved, and destroying those boats. And fining the families a million baht each. They have been profiting on the backs on thousands of slaves, for countless years, without any accountability, and this has been more or less condoned by several different Thai administrations. That is something to be deeply embarrassed about. Time to toss out the false pride and bravado, and get to work fixing the countries problems.

The approach from Thailand reminds one of a recalcitrant , the Thai administration continually work with their heads in the sand and in denial , it is not about controlling the human rights programmes or being disappointed with results, it explains to the international community and rightly so , how bad Thailand is managed , it is not a points scoring contest, countries with a poor human rights record have a poor performance with their own people as well as human rights of other nationals, it is not all about other races, at this very moment under section 44 rule, everyone in Thailand human rights is under treat. coffee1.gif

A more diplomatic response ,would have been ,"We are very

worried about this matter ,and are seriously doing all we can

to rectify this urgent problem", saying you are not worried,

is not a good response, think the General desperately needs

a PR manger.

When "the best of your abilities" is not near enough and the PM is not worried then the country has a big problem ... Thailand is a sinking ship and the Captain (General) is trying to convince the passengers that happiness is coming ... crazy.gif

He should be, as Thailand economy is taking a dive. The appeal of the country is fading, and patience is running thin on the ground for Thailand to start taking seriously human rights violations. Impending sactions are also being considered to force Thailand to comply. Ironically, the country is very dependant on foreigners for a variety of reasons, and it is wise to listen to their concerns of face the consequences.

Really? Well, there's part of the problem, right there.

One of the thing inherited from those "democratically elected" governments that were in power for 20 or 30 years before he took over.

You know the sort of governments that are only interested in democracy until the votes are counted and then it is money, money, money all the way.

Anything that they never wanted to do got swept under the carpets including TIP, illegal fishing boats etc.

At least he is trying do do something yet so many of you rubbish anything he does.

Where were you when all this was happening under your "democratically elected" governments? Cheering them on because they were "democratic" or just ignoring them as usual and not bothering to look under the carpet?

He is not disappointed because he knows Thailand is still a tier 3 country. But i hope and believe that he will zero in on trafficking in the near future and if he does even though many more politician and police will be found to have there fingers in this terrible crime. He has to clean house and bring Thailand a tier 2!
