REUTERS/Jason Reed/Files WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday urged Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states to ease their blockade against Qatar, saying it was causing unintended humanitarian consequences and affecting the U.S.-led fight against Islamic State. "Our expectation is that these countries will immediately take steps to de-escalate the situation and put forth a good faith effort to resolve their grievances they have with each other," Tillerson said in a brief statement to reporters. -- © Copyright Reuters 2017-06-10
darksidedog Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 In other words, what he is saying is he hopes the countries involved start to understand that they made their decisions, somewhat rashly, on fabricated information, and that to back down with whatever grace they can muster would be advisable.
55Jay Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Tillerson said at the outset, this issue wouldn't impact the fight against ISIS. And come on, the "unintended humanitarian issues" wouldn't be that difficult to predict if you dedicated about 5 minutes to sit quietly and think about it. Seems he and Trump aren't on the same page either. This administration has got to be one of the worst ever WRT being synchronized, and "on message".
canuckamuck Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 He should have said Saudi has a lot of nerve calling someone else out for sponsoring terrorism when Saudi is basically the Fountain of Jihad.
dexterm Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Tillerson and Trump playing the good cop bad cop routine. We are being softened up for regime change and Al Jazeera closure in Qatar on the pretext of the war on terror. Just as we were softened up for regime change in Iraq with fake claims. And it is the same neo cons in Washington pulling the strings (and for the same reasons), making suckers of us all.

Only if one attributes Trump with actually understanding such concepts as context, nuance, and subtlety.
