From time to time Inspire receives blogs from its team of writers that makes us squirm, and this was one such article. It is all based on the subject of bar girls and the casual relationships bar goers have with them, if you know what we mean. It is often frowned upon by outsiders. Here is the debate put forward by our guest writer whom has spent years in the bars in and around Pattaya.

Whether it's a bar girl or some gal you met, there is always the possibility of being scammed.  However, if you're just out for a fun time and have established a bit of a rapport with a BG over time, they can be an alternative to trying to find a willing date.  One just needs to tread with reasonable caution.  And have fun!

Before i met my wife i had a bar girl , girlfriend for over a year , she was lovely , we had a great time together ,and eventually we split up , she is now married in the UK the hight of respectability ,owns a couple of restaurants has kids  and is still a friend and is still married to the same guy , about 15 years now .

You make the assumption that bar girls are not quite human, are somehow less moral then perhaps yourself, and have no feelings.  Thinking thus, you've missed the more subtle nuances of Thai society.  There are younger women <I consider 30 and 40 year old women as young> in our village (and most villages) who left the area to 'go work in Phuket <or add your own tourist city>' when they were in their twenties.  Ten years later or so they are back in the village and now own a plot of land, a house, a car, and are solidly middle class Thais who are now growing fruit trees or running a noodle shop and attending the local Buddhist temple. Those who don't grasp that, or are somehow self righteous in their Western thinking, will never understand.

I believe that some of us who don't condemn those working in the massage business, or as bar girls, karaoke hostesses, or escorts, nor consider them to be any less human or moral than ourself probably keep in the back of our minds the old saying, "There but for the grace of God go I."  Something for the more moralistic and self-righteous members of the expat community to dwell upon.

I can't say in my experience that Bar Girls are any more fun than any other girls. Yes they like to get drunk and go out and party, usually where thai men are hanging out. Depends on what sort of night out you want I guess

The difference between a "bargirl" and a "date" can be a very grey area sometimes. I have met BGs that never go with customers, they make lots of money doing lady drinks and tips etc, I have also met Girls that work in a bank during the day and go to the local nightclub, go home with a different guy every-night, for money.

It comes down to why they are doing what they do, for some its a genuine need to support a child, parents etc, for others they quit their job as a school teacher so they can buy a car and an iphone.

I think that males of any age can get entirely and hopelessly  infatuated by a woman, particularly if she is young and pretty. Even after a few relationship wrecks along the way, "the next one will be The One", we never learn.

 

Women tend to grow out of this nonsense after their teens and become much more objective in selecting a mate, looking more for support in terms of lifestyle and someone who bolsters their often fragile ego, "how do I look, darling?".

 

Women only have true and unlimited love for their kids and Mr Samsung, preferably the handsome Mr S8+.

Bar girls are great in the bars. For a nice evening with a lovely Thai girl who has a real job and an education, who wakes every day before 4pm to go to work there is no comparison. Go with the clean living girl so that every sentence doesn't start with Where you come from? I have tried it both ways many times. Plus you get to enjoy a great dinner for the 3,000 it would have cost for the bar fine, hotel and the girl. And, just to sweeten the pot, many lovely real working girls also love to have great sex.

From my experience with women, or the majority of them, all want security, i.e. "you take care me" be it in broken English or proper English.

 

I have dated a fair few sheila's in my day, and I gotta be totally honest, I love me a "bar girl" every now and again, matter of fact I married one over 10 years ago, and have a different relationship to most married guys, where I can have my cake and eat it too, as long as I don;t bring it home or turn a one night fling into a Mia Noi, and I reckon like most guys on TVF who have married a "bar girl", they're are all pretty smitten like me, i.e. the girls have turned out to be perfect, with the derogatory term of "bar girl" not really applying to them, more so the term being applied to the season professional "bar girl", that said, it all boils down to the bloke and how he picks his future filly or nightmare.

 

Sure there has to be a balance of those of us that get the good ones, and those that get the rotten ones, in all races mind you, including the bar scene.

 

I kind of figure the ones that go pear shape or have fall off the wagon, didn't see it coming, from the seasoned professionals, thinking love is love, well it's not, love in my opinion is of course the feeling you have for your partner, but you have to keep your eyes open, your ears open, your heart protected, and your finances separate, only investing as much as your prepared to lose and walk away without, because wearing you heart on your sleeve, your ego on your chest and opening up your finances, is a recipe for failure in any relationship.

 

Control is the key in any relationship, and I don;t mean controlling the partner, but if you have control of your finances, your pretty much set for any failure, i.e. exit plan with heart to mend in time.

 

That's my spiel anyway, and for those thinking that I am unfaithful to my wife, knock yourselves out, I told her who I was when I met her, and how I liked my cake every now and again, and she saw nothing wrong with that, providing that it wasn't a weekly event, because Thai guys do this behind their backs all the time, so best she know upfront of what I will be up to during our marriage, and most guys who want to have their cake and eat it too, can't tell their girls in the beginning that is what they want because of their own reasons, suffice to say, I have never been shy, after all, its my life too and I know what I want, because tomorrow, I will be dust...
