CityNews – Germany are investing 690 million baht in Thailand into a new climate change programme aimed at developing climate-friendly approaches to energy, waste, water and agriculture.

On April 23rd, The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany launched the Thai-German Climate Programme (TGCP), a collaborative project between the German and Thai government to help improve climate and pollution control. The programme is financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The GIZ team of international and national experts provides cross-sectoral support and works closely with its Thai governmental partners.

Poorly it seems like a waste of money in this country as the willing of change is 0!

It's just suporting some administrative and govenmental people! GIZ and BMU should only support with the money of german tax payers projects that are effective and not only based on blablabla!

Why does Germany invest in a climate change program in a country 10.000km from their doorstep?

Oh wait, Germans are the environmental experts isn't it?

After all it was also Volkswagen that invented the Knox free diesel exhaust. NOT?

It would do better to pay for CO2 recycling/removal technology at Thailand's planned seven new coal-fired electrical power plants. Electricity Authority of Thailand's revised 2015 Power Development Plan actually projects an increase in CO2 emissions from now into 2036.

With just 18 Mio, Euro the Germans should concentrate on ONE single project, which they could organize and oversee. This would be i.E. the further development and installation of solar and wind powered devices in the region of Thepha.

Germans are real experts in windpower. That is why they have idle installations rotting along the coast. Power goes nowhere and equipment costs money to stop it from rotting. And how much solar power experience do they have?  Corruption and nepotism isn't unknown in Merkel country. Many GIZ and other experts will enjoy Thailand during the cold winter months in Germany.

You really know all about it, do you. Never read this much of bullshit, without any verifiable content.

690 million could buy quite a few catalytic exhausts that are desperately needed in Thailand.loads of money thrown around by a government who think they can change the world for better and we can all live in one big utopia happily ever after.i wonder if the German tax payers have been informed of this waste.when it comes to pollution and caring for the environment I think Asia is the toilet of the world and china as the leader.oh and why do the team have to fly out here and create more pollution when they could just video conference and send a cheque.

Thais must be laughing their heads off.stupid farang have too much money and give it away.asia as whole don't give a toss about the environment or eco system.its all about money and saying they need to be educated about it won't ever work because it don't make them money,it costs money.while we are at it can anyone tell me where the Thai government fly the other side of the planet and give money to a foreign cause.thailand should be imposed with big fines and sanctions for what pollution they cause, not rewarded.as far as I can remember they still produce asbestos and use seriously dangerous chemicals in farming and manufacturing.i would say 1 Thai bus or truck equals about 100 times more pollution than the modern world.

Germany wants to sell German equipment, not buy local Thai trees for planting. The investment will be invested in Germany. Benefit to Thailand will be minimal.

Since 2009, the German Federal Environment Ministry has financed more than 13 bilateral projects in Thailand with a total value of nearly 50 million euros (about 1.9 billion baht) focusing on mitigating CO2 emissions and helping Thailand to adapt to climate change as well as to protect forest areas and biodiversity,” Stephan Contius, commissioner for the German ministry’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development said at the launch.

I'm just wondering how many luxury cars and houses were bought from that money?

Germans are complete idiots if it comes to investing money. They just like to pay taxes and then waste their money on some idealistic project for the greater good of the whole world.

Just for the record I am German and hate this kind of shit projects where Germany waste its tax Euros.

Agree with you.

Time for Germany to get off their moral high ground and telling others what to do. Yet their environmental record is shameful.

Not enough wind in Chiang Mai to make windmills economic.

That amount of money isn't enough to do anything much. It will vanish and nothing to show for it.

However, they could repair Samui's incinerator and buy some rubbish barges for Koh Larn.

Obviously, you don't understand economics and geopolitics. The germans are investing in projects which in turn will force thais to purchase and procure German goods for improving and curbing environmental problems. There's money to be made out of this contract and german corporations will surely make huge profits for years to come, if they haven't monopolized the market already. So if you think they (the thais) are laughing now, you'll probably start sneezing when you find out the ROI.
