Daily News reported on a six car pile up caused by smoke from fires in fields in Khon Kaen in Thailand's north east.

Two people were taken to hospital after the incident in Ban Fang district on Wednesday morning.

A video of the aftermath was posted by "Palm Sarawuth" on Facebook and ended up on YouTube.

Police said that there were laws against the burning of fields in close proximity to highways and those responsible face a fine of up to 60,000 baht or three years in jail.

Those involved in the accident are not absolved of responsibility, however - they can face action under the traffic law of driving too close to the vehicle in front.

Drivers have been advised to slow down when they see smoke or not enter affected areas at all if possible.

Police and insurance companies continue to investigate the case.

The two people in hospital are out of danger.

People are so used to see fires set on illegal garbage dumps, that from a distance nobody, would have even noticed !!

one sane person five idiots, poor visibility, so he slowed down as any normal driver would, but not here, then 5 <deleted> go steaming into the back of each other, lucky no fatalities ,

So let me see here, you drive along a fast moving hiway, you notice thick smoke blowing from the field on to the road blanketing the clear view of the traffic in bothway and YOU STILL thotel through in full speed not thinking to slow down and make sure nothing is a head that you can see?....

Reminds me of east London in the 1950s.

The smog was so thick that men with lanterns would walk in front of busses to show them the way.

Just have to drive according to the conditions at the time.

Wonder how many fines have been given for the annual ritual of burn everything in sight?

Even though it's illegal to burn close to the highways (or could even have been an accidental / nature fire ), they will still blame that & expect the Insurance companies to pay.

They should not pay as the Police have stated that they broke a law & all rear ended each other

Is forbidden? Who's care? I took those pics next to a police station near the place where I live! None do something. FYI: is not once along that road is nearly dealy during the burning season...even the municipal authorities let burning the grass and others anytime they want.

A couple of decades ago I was driving Kanchanaburi to Ang Thong early morning and ran into a wall of thick fog. With dipped headlamps and wipers I could not see more than ten meters so pulled tight onto the shoulder and set my hazard flashers on waiting for the rising sun to burn of the fog, Several vehicles passed driving fast on my right.

Fifteen minutes later the fog burned off in literally a minute and I continued on my way. Three hundred meters down the road encountered four pickups and two cars urgently engaged in some kind of sexual frenzy each one mounting the other from behind......?

Police stating that burning like this is illegal. Why not just admit publicaly then that no police do there job inless it effects them personally like what happened with 2kids caught stealing from a bib home. Its ok to steal from everyone elses though. When will police force laws. Its the only thing holding this country from taking its first step of cleaning up its act.

I talk again ! Many people in thailand are without any driving skills!!

Please don't jump to conclusions. Brakes may have failed.

It's holy smoke promising good luck and wealth, let's accelerate to get the most of it!

Thais don't seem to reduce speed in rainy conditions so not surprising they wouldn't for smoke...

tailgating equals driving blind...

thailand is very lucky that fog is not often a driving factor here...requires acute driving safety precautions....

Be careful slowing down with hazards on (normal behaviour), because mad max and fast n furious will be barrelling in behind you full bore.

There you are minding your own business , you enter the twilight zone then wallop you get rear ended .  No flashers to be seen then ....wallop.

You are responsible no matter what, if it's to foggy, snow, sleet, flood, animal or stop lights on the car in front of you, you are always driving to fast for conditions, EVEN SMOKE!

Great post.

I think it must be 7 cars involved. The first white car in the front have damages in the back and the front. But where is the car/truck where it crashed inside?

I don't think its as simple as that. Even if they had driving skills, the vast majority are morons.  Last year I'm driving down highway 9 heading for Suvarnabhumi and it starts to rain......and rain....and boy does it rain.  I'm from the UK so I'm used to driving in heavy rain but this was so bad it was impossible to see anything - the spray was so bad.  The only thing to do was slowly get over to the left, stop and wait for the rain to stop.  Did the Thai's stop? No way!

There's nothing wrong with my eyes, it was impossible to see anything - I'm sure most of us have witnessed rain like that in Thailand but these idiots just kept on going - and at high speed.  Twenty minutes later the rain stopped and I'm on my way again........ 2km......carnage, absolute carnage, cars and trucks smashed up everywhere!!

Who in there right mind would drive into a cloud of spray with zero visibilty?  Thai's that's who. It doesn't matter if you have driving skills or not - driving skills don't improve visibility!  Never mind buddha will protect them!
