Wow...TV has changed.

Featured Replies

I often read the news and crap via the newsletter but never log in and check the whole site.

Wow it is really different.

I sometimes reflect how it was me that started and ran with the news letter for the first few years. That was back in 04 and then some.

I wonder how many of you remember that.

TV really took off after the tsunami.

How many of you original guys are still around?

I found this pic of me the other day.

I was flying the thaivisa flag in Azerbaijan.

How idealistic were we back then. Hmmm

Remember DrPatPong?

What a legend.

I wonder where we all are these days.

Damn Jing.

I hope not.

I remember you fondly tho with your old avatar.

This place died when Dr Pat Pong went walkabout.

Sad.

I remember the DrPatPong days with a smile....he once banned a newbie four posts in for being a boring bas**rd.

I mean in those days the forum really moved quickly as there were only a few different places to post....and the vibe was lets say....ummm edgy lol.

I remember you fondly Tuky. Weren't you a very lenient moderator at one time?  hello%20thailand.gif

Are you meeting me for a beer soon then?

Have you finally chosen the life of riley or are you headed back to tuna sarnies and chilli sauce?

Hey, I'm still around!

Joined in January 2002. Many (MANY) things have changed with TV (and me) during all these years.  Still a happy smurf though ?

I have been around since 2003 and still living in Nakhon Nowhere.

I am a bit older and more crabby than those days.

OTOH TVF was a lot friendlier back then.

  • Popular Post

September 2007, i have to agree it was a lot friendlier then, now there are far too many haters.

Some posters now only post to annoy others or use the sad button for no other reason than being nasty.

Yes there are about 7/8 who are destroying this site.

I joined at the arse-end of 2004.

Freshly married to my Thai babe (OK she was already a granny) in the UK, freshly out of a contract in Belgium, where next, I know, let's go back to the Far East ?

Best move ever, and TV was, and still is, THE premier information source on visas and the like.

I do agree with you about the visa immigration sources but the are not generally the problem with TVF. It is so many other threads that descend into nastiness and insults such as the old Brexit thread, the one about the farang in northern Thailand who has been here since he was 2 and so many more.

Most of the common sense day to day threads are fine but post about sex tourists in Pattaya or Phuket and it gets to a slug fest. The one about Khao San road is slowly heading that way too.

Was  reading the forum for about a year, joined march '08 when the love of my life got a rejection letter at her fiance interview simply stating "administrative reasons",  the application was a legitimate one, plenty of evidence of relationship, and financial , so we were besides our selves trying to find out what it meant, Trying to get in touch with the US embassy was no help and  when my congressmen  made a congressional inquiry got the same response.  So I took the plunge, and posted in the Visas and migration to other countries sub forum, the response was incredible, very kind, and reassuring, I was told that they were probably looking at some aspect of the application and would get back to as as soon as they had an answer (why couldn't the embassy say so?)

Anyway, I will never forget and always be grateful to TVF and it's members, Since then I cant even begin to say how many times TVF and its members have being helpful, and  how many times I have spit my coffee across the table from laughing at a very funny reply,

Personal i find TVF indispensable

Spring 2004 - I got bored with the place after Dr PP and a whole crowd of others disappeared, I guess that's when TV lost its 'edginess' - Johnny Moron and his various reincarnations was invariably good for a laugh. I drifted back eventually, but it's not really the same place it used to be.

I'm a 2003'er too.

I remember ordering that T-shirt, but unfortunately they were sold out so never got one.

I do however, still have a Thai Visa jacket - pre-forum website, from 2000:

Heraclitus said many years ago that the universe is in a constant state of flux...and if we agree that this forum is part of the same universe (and not an alternative one) then we can also agree that the TVF forum is subject to the same phenomenon...

'hey! what were ye doin' a couple of minutes ago???' 'makin' meself a cheese and tomato sandwich' 'that may be a false presumption as in fact you have no proof...'

maybe bedlam is the alternative universe that has eluded folks for millennia...where events are verifiably linear, traceable and with the usual notions of sanity adhering thereto...

ye gots to expect things to not be the same alla time...

@bluesofa The phone number on the back of your jacket is now used by a cosmetics company.

Ha ha, you called it to find out? I had no idea!

The domain thaivisa.com was originally registered by a Swedish guy Lars - can't remember his surname - in 1998 when he provided a visa service.

He sent me a jacket as I used his service. He was on Sukhumvit soi 23.

When he became really popular, immigration didn't appreciate the service he offered and were after him, so he did a runner.

When the domain expired, George registered it and started TVF with it in (I think) 2002.

The turning point seems to have been around 2010, when the Red Shirt/Yellow Shirt split poisoned and divided the forums.

  • 3 months later...

I remember Dr Pat Pong, he was a one liner wizard.

Sadly, these days are full of Thai bashers.

Ah, the days of George and being allowed to post anything.

Anyone remember Felix Lyn doing the Bkk radio.

Anyone remember the Bear Pit?

I thought it was George who had that place.
