Police say the arrest of a Nigerian man this weekend is the latest in an ongoing battle against foreigners who are flooding the popular tourist destination with cocaine and other drugs.

Chinedu Victor Okeke, 45, was arrested on Saturday after jumping out of the window of his rented, climbing over a fence and attempting to hide from police and soldiers in a nearby temple.

However, officers managed to catch Chinedu in the grounds of Wat Laem Suwannaram in Bophut and took him back to his house where a search of the property found more than 280 grams of cocaine stashed at various points around the property.

Upon questioning Chinedu admitted selling cocaine to both Thai and foreign tourists on Koh Samui for between 1,000 and 18,000 baht.

Police said there has been an increase in foreigners going to Koh Samui for the purpose of selling drugs.

Chinedu was also found to have overstayed his visa and remains in police custody.

Seems like the Thais have missed this business opportunity.

From what I heard, most of the trade is in the hands of locals anyway.

So why the "ongoing battle against foreigners" then?

It is an extremely ineffective way to contain an illegal drug selling problem to only direct focus on foreigners.

And pretty sleazy to just do this for photo shoots while an entire industry is happening under their noses. Crazy.

As has happened in Australia and NZ, after the massive influx of foreign tourists, a big  drug problem mushrooms.

Cocaine was not heard of a few years ago, now LOS has its problems along with Meth.

The biggest maker of drugs to make P come from  ----- yes china.

And these people are masters of recruitment, they can recruit gangs/ and infiltrate governments and customs in whichever country they operate in.

I will stick to good old Thai beer.

Working in Samui 14 years ago, almost all the guys I worked with did coke or weed, not my thing. Their favourite was "Its gonna be a white Christmas" Definately was a market for it then.

A losing battle, demand-supply, go figure.

Portugal has seen immensely positive changes within it's society after decriminalising all elicit drugs. If only other nations would take notice, many problems we have today in this world would vanish
