They mentioned that UK police were not allowed to interview anyone or do other than observe when they came to Thailand for the Kho Tao murders and that Thai police should expect no more than that going to the UK.

Also mentioned his biased approach from day 1 and adversarial attitude towards the alleged victim.

He was not going to arrest her... as far as i can tell he woulf have been following up on her claim and would take a statement from her, exactly what would have happened if she had made the report in thailand...nothing to do with jurisdiction.

You seem to be confusing the sensitivities of investigating rape with the formalities of investigating an assault or robbery, etc. 

 

He is NOT going to England to investigate or take statements for any reason. He NEVER was going. This is all for show. He can’t even speak English properly, for christ’s sake.

The problem is that he was going with his own pre-conceived ideas formed after his tour of Koh Tao. So, instead of being a policeman investigating an alleged offence, he would have been more like a defence lawyer trying to prove the girl a liar. 

In addition, interviewing (or, per his stated intentions, "interrogating") is still a police function and not appropriate in a foreign country where he has no jurisdiction.

 

If all he wants is a statement without questioning her that can be obtained from the UK authorities with certified translation and no need for him to travel there. Simply coordinate with UK authorities to obtain the details needed for investigation, if indeed there is any intention to investigate.

It's not appropriate that the police officer in charge of a case should interview a woman who is making a rape allegation?  Love to know how you work that out.  Are the police expected to believe everything every complainant says without investigation, really?

 

He doesn't need "jurisdiction", all he needs is permission to interview her which is not only appropriate but it is essential in any type of case if the complainant expects to be taken seriously.

 

Whether RTP allowed the British police anything in a different case is irrelevant to this alleged rape and that exact reciprocity should be applied is just the writers opinion, it's not a rule!

 

It's a shame that the alleged victim's lack of credibility from day one and her adversarial attitude towards the RTP wasn't mentioned also.

That's not "all that he wants", he wants to interview her, and she has to be interviewed in order for there to be an investigation, regardless of what Thaivisa posters think!

Basically the idea of fly to UK, shows how completely out of touch Big Joke or hiswearing advisors are.

Once out of Thailand he will be in the full glare of the western press without any of the Thai laws that protect them from criticism.

The police give a string impression of handling this case inteptly and insensitively and any trip outside Thailand is far more likely to have a negative impact over any positive outcomes.

 

 

It is well established that victims of sexual assault are very unlikely to report assaults to anyone,let alone the police and it seems that high rabling police officers in Thailand are completely unaware of this.

This makes one question how suitably trained they are to deal with these sort of cases at all.

In common with many other instances it seems that police, rather than concentrate on collated and reporting evidence, see their role in a more judivial sense and try to influence the outcome of events by unconstitutional non police activities.

Absolutely....in many instances it appears that Thai police see their role as going way beyond the role.of police into the world of the judiciary, seeking to find solutions to cases rather than reporting the evidence.

In the West this would be regarded as a serious breach of separation of powers.
