I had to login today so maybe they restarted the server or something.

Anyway the pages are sometimes loading normal this morning , but then very slow , like 30 seconds to open . So it's very random .

And the odd timeout, cloudfare message.

  • Maybe they should add some more ads to pay for faster servers

  • So slow and sporadic I give up. Since Nation took over TV has become less user friendly and full of ads. Looking for a better site for Thailand visa info and news.

  • Yep, looks like I will be mowing the lawn today...????   I now refer to the mower as Error 520...????

It's weird. 5 pages load quick followed by a spinning circle for 3 mins after that followed by no chance of a connection

A good friend suggested this.

Avoid 2 minutes past the hour and half hour and see what happens.

Don't do anything 02-04 and 32-34 past the hour ! ridiculous state of affairs but let me know how you get on ?

I have tried this on the half hour and it affects me from about 31 to 35 minutes past the hour but I keep forgetting about the time after the hour.

Also the little widget that takes me back to the top of the page has disappeared once again.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

Now when someone responds to post, we don't know who they are replying to as the name does not appear in the top of the box.

Yes, the 'scroll to top' widget has gone away again.

I can't clear notifications either as that option has also disappeared!

The site is getting increasingly unusable now!

It's gone on holiday, don't worry, it'll be back soon (as a Thai girl once said about my hair).

we likely have a website fatter than most of us.

Image result for fat slow website

Update:

Some of the add-ons of the forum have been disabled in order to get to the root of the current issues. The problem is being worked on by both our technical staff and "Invisions" (the software creators).

Its a "work in progress" and they continue to work toward a solution.

Why not delete all threads for posts over lets say five years, although 2 years would be better. Would that not speed the site up?

Same, it's borderline unusable sometimes

Why can't they pay for faster servers?

It would probably be more effective to delete the ads for old topics that appear at the RHS and bottom of the page. I've no idea what their purpose is.

Personally I think that the problem revolves around the number of Mb's per page, making them slow and glitchy. Real solution is more server capacity, but that costs money. Hmmmm…..

I ran the URL for one of the discussions through an analysis engine to see what kind of problems (too many ads, excessive javascript, etc) might come up at the page level.  I couldn't even get past the front-end web server:

server.PNG.18e647371f9686408a35f2b944150ca7.PNG

It seems as though someone has been fiddling with the JS, presumably in an attempt to make the site load faster. This has resulted in the quoting function and post details function breaking.

Edit: I see the above was mentioned on the previous page which I was unable to read due to the site being too slow.

The server is working fast enough because sometimes the site works perfect.

Sometimes?  I ran the same URL again just now and this time it went through.  Result is not pretty:

I checked this and you are 100% correct.

Shame that someone with a title as tech doctor can't figure out what exactly happens at those particular time each hour of the day.

Maybe he's not really a doctor.

For the non-tech (IT) minded amongst us Con Queso, does this mean that much more work is needed on the website to bring it round to a more "user friendly" state??

Well as I have nothing to compare it with, it may well be that this is fairly common with many other websites?? Maybe other websites have similar problems but operate more efficiently........??

And as for your smart comment; how does a non IT person understand such as the following:- You should reduce the number of DOM elements. The number of DOM elements influences the complexity of the webpage and DOM access in JavaScript.

It's time the owners paid for GOOD IT staff to either sort out the problems, or replace the entire system currently being used.

Edit - At the moment, the website is only getting worse....

I have tried this on the half hour and it affects me from about 31 to 35 minutes past the hour but I keep forgetting about the time after the hour.

Also the little widget that takes me back to the top of the page has disappeared once again.

The widget has come back but the underlying problem still remains.

Of course we punters are left in the dark about the status of the site even after a week.

The Clear Notifications option is also back but doesn't work - just gives a 'page not found' error and the notifications are not cleared!

But currently: lightning fast!

Would be happy if it stays like this.

EDIT:

short lived euphoria.

I have  several sites to compare it with as most do and the problem is here.

A non IT person does not have to understand Con Queso but the so called techs at thaivisa should. Actually its high time to fire then and do some headhunting at the other forums that do not have intermittent problems and counting.
