Woman involved in fatal Chiang Mai road accident wants to say sorry before meeting police

 

 

The woman who police say is responsible for the death of two people in Chiang Mai has said she will meet with police some time this week. 

 

Wijitra Pukbunreuang, 25, said she was going to the funeral of TV show host and stylist Jatupat "Centimetre" Khemnak at Wat Rangsee Sophon in Nakorn Nayok. 

 

She intended to apologize to the corpse and say sorry to his mum and dad. 

 

Then she'd be back to face charges of negligent driving causing death. 

 

Centimetre and his friend Supakit Kerdsam, a store manager, both died after plunging into a klong in a CRV. 

 

Police said earlier that the Vios driver's actions in driving straight on in a turning lane caused the accident. 

 

Phuphing police plan to issue a summons if "Vios Woman" - as she is known in the Thai media - fails to show up, reported Daily News.

There was no indicator from the CRV (as is with so many Thai) so she have just assumed it waS going straight ahead untill it just pulled across to the right unless there is another camera showing the accident from behind i personally would say 50-50 responsibility .

makes it hard, looks like she was speeding as well, the driver of the crv obviously never looked in his mirror to see if it was safe to pull over as well as didnt indicate, both these things are bad habits many thai drivers/riders do. If he had of looked in his mirror he would not have tried to change lanes, then again many drivers do so anyway, while she may not have been turning the crv didnt indicate or check to see if there were any cars in that lane before moving over so has to carry some of the responsibility. Unfortunately in Thailand hardly any drivers abide by road laws or signage on the roads, they think they can do whatever they like from any lane on the road as is seen time and time again, I cannot see thai driving improving at all till road laws are actually enforced by the police and that will never happen. More avoidable deaths due to total disregard  to driving requirements by both drivers

Looking at the video the vios wasn't in a lane,she was in a hatched area but probably clueless to what that means.the crv not using indicators doesn't help.in fact indicators in Thailand don't mean anything.they are either never used or if used left on for the rest of the journey.i never trust a Thai indicator full stop.i would say the blames on her and she knows it.

Well the extent of tinting on windows here cut's down night vision when driving a lot,to be honest i have thought of investing in night vision goggles.

Nope. She was in a turn right only lane. They were in a correct lane and started to move over. She seems to have sped up to try and cut in-front of them rather than giving way, as seems to be the mentality here.

 

Perhaps she was distracted and realized she was in the wrong lane. But rather than wait, slow down, signal and move across when safe, she follows the 'me first, I'm important' mentality seen so often on the roads.

 

Now she'll try and get away with grovelling, some ways, and possibly some compensation. 

 

The police should act but as we see aren't exactly exerted themselves.

The Vios driver for driving too fast on the right lane and not paying attention. 

 

This is a typical Thai style of driving , "me first" without thinking about the other vehicles on the road, 

 

That's why I always look in both mirrors before I make any changes . Be prepared for anything!

The vios drove over a hatched area in to the right turn lane at speed.the crv is only guilty of not indicating..the vios was in the wrong lane for going straight.

In the UK she would get charged with 'Death by Dangerous Driving' and get ten years for killing two people but here it will be ten minutes in front of a Policeman and everyone will be smiling as she walks out the door.   Until they get serious with this type of person things will never improve.

Its amazing that whomever is to blame for these deaths (to me its the barrier manufacturers) that the person alleged to have killed someone can just turn up at the funeral. Extremely crass and displaying absolutely zero empathy with the bereaved and to what purpose other than her own ends. Its like an extension of the video, neither party relenting, braking or attempting to pull away and the whole thing leading to a dive into murky waters.

Section of concrete barrier that was knocked over now replaced with steel barrier. Just that section, not the whole side. U turn marking on right hand lane has the yellow cross hatching lines on top of it. Scarily bad road design.

I also don't see any roadsigns that the lane was for turning right...no arrows nothing..Which makes the trafficsign department guilty as well...

Just read on CM news site that the bridge is old and not up to safety standards. It's going to demolished and rebuilt, along with other ones.
The Vios girl driver has already been to one funeral, wife showed me a video of her crying her heart out, looked a bit false to me.

This is a very valid point. My wife is constantly griping about getting our windows tinted darker. I refuse and I tell her I want people to be able to see me. There's a reason why very darkly tinted windows are illegal in many Western countries. They are inherently more dangerous to both the driver of the vehicle and others trying to see the driver and figure out what they are going to do.

To reduce charges, which charges? she'll be charged maximum 1000 Baht.

Why wasn't she escorted to the police station after the accident and tested for alcohol and drugs in her system, as well as giving a full statement to the RTP??

Does it say anywhere she was or wasn't tested for drink and drugs, also the other driver, doesn't say if he was tested, post mortem.

Is it just me or can anyone see any evidence of either car braking? It’s a tragedy for sure, but as the CRV should have been slowing to turn right I don’t understand how it ended up in the klong ????

We can talk about the lack of driving discipline, the lack of post accident investigation et al until the cows come home.

TIT, its not important to the authorities because they are lacksadaisical and really dont care.

 

In a civilised world you certainly would not be seeing any cctv footage two hours later, maybe 12months after a court case.

 

Scares me to death knowing the wife legitimately was given a driving licence after 10 days. Cars already been repaired 4 times and one hospitalised bike rider.
