A 26 year old Pranburi man suffering from obesity needed the help of 30 neighbors, a rescue foundation and medics to get to hospital.

Thongchai had to be carried to a boat from his old seaside house then loaded on an ambulance. The whole operation took 3 hours before Thongchai was safely at Pranburi Hospital.

His mother said that her son developed symptoms of obesity at eight years of age. By 2012 he weighed 100 kilos.

When he got to 230 kilos he was told by doctors at Sirirat Hospital in Bangkok that he needed to have his stomach reduced in surgery.

But he was scared of having the operation and went home.

Yesterday he developed complications related to having abnormally low levels of oxygen in his blood and so Sawang Phae Phaisan rescue foundation and medics were called to assist at the house in Ban Klong Kiw, Pak Nam Pran.

...right after the moment doctors told them they don't serve burgers, nuggets, chips, and coke at the ward?

With his fat reserves they would not need to feed him for 6 months.

rubbish. It is not about McDonalds it is about people who eat to much and too one-sided.

Merely needs an operation to reduce the size of his stomach, that will fix it, no need for education/ proper nutrition or lifestyle changes. Continue MSG with every meal and eat at 7/11 every chance you get.

It would help if they had phrased this news indicating clearly in the headline that it was a Thai, as they would have done so had he been farang. A sigh of relief that chubs isn't British anyway ????

It has been shown in Canada and other countries that this operation, generally, initially reduced the intake of food and can help overcome the problem of obesity.  However, what is never usually published, or known is that most people who have had this procedure have to have it reversed within a couple of years due to complications setting in.  The cost of the initial operation is about CAD20,000 but provincial health insurance plans often pick up the tab which, in my point of view is an abuse of the system.  If a person wants and pays for the initial surgery why must the general public help foot the bill for reversing the process?  Also, if, like in obese people exercising and losing large amounts of weight, usually fat, or by using the aforementioned operation, then the person losing the weight has to pay for the removal of the excess skin.  That is a very expensive procedure which takes time.
