Looking back to early Brexit threads here on TVF, dozens of Brexit supporters have seemingly evaporated     leaving only a handful of Brexiteers doggedly posting in support of their failing Brexit.

If you wanted to spread the word of Christianity as an example, would you have two thirds non believers (Atheists/Heathens) doing it and coming up with a plan to be successful.

Well the analogy is the same for Brexit and the cabinet. 2/3 remainers and you wonder why it is going the way it is.

the UK is a united nations of great britain, with several islands and launguages...not too much different to what you despise imo

You have Scouse, Yorkshire, Brummy, Glaswegian, Cornish and a good few others which are variations of English, although many could argue differently.????

Back on topic, this thread makes it very clear that the brit. parliament is desperately looking for a way to remain within the eu - without the voters realising....

I doubt it will work - but full marks for effort....

What’s wrong with either a bulldog (not a French one lol) or the flag of our country as a tattoo?

Better than draping yourself in the EU flag of a foreign power.

Does it mean anything to be one of the few, I was in the RAF don't have any tatts and voted to remain.

Following my time in the service I was exporting capital equipment globally before and after the single market. I saw first hand the benefits the single market brought to small companies looking to export. Selling to the EU became as easy as Scotland or NI.

Will be a sad day for UK business if they have to go back to the way it was.

I have never suffered from myopia but my perception is that the EU never wanted to make this exercise 'easy'.

It was never going to be easy from day one, DC was warned about the Belfast Agreement but took no notice. The EU have a vested interest in the peace process, after all they have been funding it for 20 years. The Belfast Agreement was based on both countries being members of the EU, but how many gave it a second thought before putting their mark on the ballot paper.

159.The positive role played by the EU in relation to the peace process can be encapsulated in four areas: the safeguards that EU membership provides in underpinning the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement; the role that common UK-Irish EU membership played and continues to play in transforming relations between the two countries; the effect of common EU membership in diluting cross-community tensions in Northern Ireland; and the positive impact of EU funding in Northern Ireland.

The focus so far has been on the border but this is not over by a long way.

I think there are two issues. The first as you say is Parliament which spends its time defending its right to defy the people(those nasty little buggers they don't like or agree with) and secondly the government which, to outward appearances, defends the peoples judgement in the name of democracy but fails miserably when trying to defend its position in public debate.

I don't think a General Election is the answer because neither party is fit to govern and as events have shown the people of the UK are disrespected by Remainers (as evidence look at some of the contributions by Remainers on this forum) and those who actually run the country.

The last few weeks have been an ugly series of events. Shamefully these events have ignored a majority view that the population want to be governed by elected representatives, and have instead shown they are held in contempt by their own political class.

In which case you'll have no problem lining them all up (c/w veterans badge & bulldog) for a confirmatory photo supporting this baloney. Starting with "Tallest on the right" (in a shouty voice) helps sort out the walts.

I do think that Brexiteers Project Fear is far more alluring....

Brexit: Buying ham sandwich in Derry to eat in Donegal could be illegal from Saturday week

In a no-deal scenario taking shopping from Newry to Dundalk will be ‘smuggling’ – EU

image.png.f08bed817c9feaf319e58cda38ef1e1b.png

Buying a ham sandwich in Derry and walking across the Border to eat it in Donegal could be illegal from Saturday week, an act of smuggling. As could that family weekly supermarket shopping trip to Newry from Dundalk.

If the UK leaves the EU on April 13th with no-deal, a scenario now described by the commission as “highly likely”, the imposition of health controls between the EU and this “third country” will bring with it a ban on the export to the EU of all animal-based products, including meats and dairy products. From ham to pork pies, and Cheddar to Wensleydale. Butter too.

Unless, that is, an exporter is registered on an EU authorised exporter list as conforming to EU production and health standards.

Commission officials briefing journalists on no-deal planning for food and health product imports confirmed on Thursday that would mean prohibitions on all such material crossing the Irish Border, whether or not there are border posts and controls on it.

In practice that may mean there will be no-one to take the ham sandwich off you on the Donegal side of the Border.

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/brexit-buying-ham-sandwich-in-derry-to-eat-in-donegal-could-be-illegal-from-saturday-week-1.3849639?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&fbclid=IwAR3U6M8XWDEvevbcEXPBVwPRWkGO7GIpoW-wKGoKTfULkylcFaTQKMswNnc

Thus exposing the stupidity of the EU rules and regulations. If it is OK one day and illegal the next due to a change in the law, then the quote by Mr Bumble from Oliver Twist is very apt.

"If the law supposes that," said Mr. Bumble, squeezing his hat emphatically in both hands, "the law is a ass — a idiot. If that's the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is, that his eye may be opened by experience — by experience."

Of course the fact that meat-producers on both sides of the border are ALREADY operating to EU sanctioned "production and health standards" doesn't feature in this ridiculous stretch of the Remainer's imagination and the Leaver's credulity. The fact that the actual standards will NOT automatically revert to unacceptable, bare-minimum, dirty farmyard abatoir standards on the UK side at the stroke of midnight is missed. I agree that the 12-part, carbon-copied (exporter retains yellow copy for their files) piece of paper that allows a ham sandwich to cross borders unchallenged will technically become an 'illegal' document but the producers and consumers on each side will have all the "production and health standards" they can shake a ham shank at still in place.

Exactly how that particular EU regulation is integrated with any matching UK regulation is what POST- Brexit negotiations will be about. The complex task of dovetailing existing, sensible and already mutually agreeable "production and health standards" by sensible and mutually agreeable government functionaries is what tax-payers on either side will be paying for. If someone considers that the free-movement of someone's elses packed lunch is something that needs to be legislated in the House BEFORE we walk away from the EU, then I reckon they're already a few rashers shy of the full BLT.

Except for possibly the Geordie? Nobody could honestly argue with them since nobody would have a bloody clue what they're saying in the first place.
