The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has instructed its officials to enforce higher fines for motorcyclists who ride and park on sidewalks starting next month.BMA deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul held a meeting with the chief of the BMA’s Regulation Enforcement Department and chiefs of the regulation enforcement divisions in all districts on Tuesday to instruct them to strictly enforce the new fine with effect from August 1.

Sakoltee said although the BMA has been fining motorcyclists B1,000 for riding and park on sidewalks, they continued to violate the regulations so the BMA decided to double the fine to Bt2,000 from August 1.

Sakoltee said he has assigned the enforcement department to develop an app to allow city enforcers to know whether certain motorcyclists have repeatedly broken the rules..

According to Sakoltee, 20,659 motorcyclists were arrested for riding on sidewalks between July 9 2018 and July 21 2019. The officials reprimanded 4,197 of them and took legal action against the rest. The city administration collected Bt11.179 million during the same period.

what a joke. never happen!

who is going to enforce this new fine??

I know a local police station that would have financial troubles if the police were actually fined for driving on the footpath.

Sent from my SM-C710F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

How the hell can I get my lottery numbers if the rego numbers are being blacked out?!

Need to vamp this up. Need the extra money to replace what is being lost to lack of tourists !!

The motorcycle taxi ranks (Win) are located mostly on sidewalks.

That will just result in an increase in the removal of number plates, to try and avoid being caught.

In Udon alone I've notice a marked increase in the number of white licence plate cars with the rear black numbers 'whited out', presumably to avoid being read by cameras. The front number plates always tend to be untampered with though.

What's wrong with the old law and fine?

As usual ...all words & threats but no action by the neighborhood police ( too much work for them).

BMA to enforce new fine for riding on sidewalks

Judging from the positive results of previous efforts....we can certainly expect this latest BMA masterstroke to be another brilliant success.

What do you mean with Pt. 3456?

The new pavements put down along Sukhumvit virtually all have dropped curbs.

The BMA is having a laugh as per normal.

Old News. The BMA introduced a Fine of B5000 for motocycles riding on the pavement 2 years ago with large signs along the route. The police have not been enforcing that  fine and now they are only charging B2,000. Do they think that they will stop riding on the pavement if the reduce the fine from B5,000 to B2,000. A policemen watches the motorcyclists riding down Srinakarin road opposite Talad Rot Fai, but never bother to catch them despite the danger to pedestrians.

And put it all to good use no-doubt ?

So that's where all those sent to inactive posts go to. The enforcement department. Should have been obvious, really.

Wow!  By golly, THAT will sure solve the problem!!!

Start in Sukhumvit Soi 6, Bangkok, Lumpini will make a fortune & most also riding the wrong way up a one way street, but will never be enforced. someone is dreaming
