Have you ever been physically attacked?

Featured Replies

Have you ever been physically  attacked in Thailand?

What was the circumstances?

Just wondering, especially Expats, do you carry a personal defence implement, say a spray or similar to protect yourself.

Is there areas in Thailand or times you do this ?

Eg, Pattaya or Bangkok at night

Im not going to be judgemental on this , I believe everyone has their own perogerative

What about areas such as isaan at night driving by yourself , do you feel safe and when have you felt unsafe

Do you avoid certain areas ?

Or certain places , farang bars with yobbo ‘s , pool halls

, thai concerts

Are you street smart in Thailand and if you have been attacked in the past would you say your hyper vigilant of your surroundings and who is around you.

or you could be exactly opposite i guess and nothing ever has happened or you dont take it personally

I was attacked back in 2008 at a isaan thai concert, a young drunk thai off his face smashed a bottle over my head , didnt even know him, he kept  bumping into me he was wrestled away by other thais , of course that was over 10 years ago,but it still sticks  in my mind and i have never been to a isaan thai concert again

I used to frequent Thai pool halls when I first came here, my Thai wife was one of the girls in the silk hot pants, crop tops and teeter totter shoes that would re-arrange our balls for us. She was a full (Bangkok) gang member, also the best protection a guy could have.

in general i agree  but drunk anyone is potentially dangerous

i might question the difference between just arrived and longer stay boozed up equally potentially suspect to be out of control

Yes, I was attacked on several occasions by the same person.  That person threw plates at me, physically attacked me twice, and then when I didn't respond, they threw a knife at me.

After that, I decided that divorce was the best option ... ????

Were the robberies by the ladyboys down to an unfortunate gender assessment by yourself?

is, not getting the goods that you thought you were purchasing ????????

I do find that hard to believe as I would have to be ridiculously drunk to make that mistake,

and you seem to have a fair bit more experience than myself!

Ha ha, I've had my women chase me a few time with machetes and knives.

That's not being attacked, that's Thai affection.

The sex after is great.

I've adopted a totally pacifist approach, even if it's at the expense of my dignity, especially if no witnesses are around to back up my side of the story. Very likely an altercation will turn into a murky 'he said, she said' situation down at the police station. My experience is that Thais have few qualms about lying about what led up to the altercation or who threw the first punch. Even if you end up laying down some serious whoop-ass, you'll forever after be looking over your shoulder, worrying every passing motorcyclist might be a drive-by shooter. Before 'putting up one's dukes' the quality and accessibility of emergency room trauma care needs to be carefully weighed as well. There's also a significant risk that any violence will be met with an unexpectedly disproportionate response or that the other party will fight in an unanticipated "dirty" fashion, i.e., a blind side attack, gang attack, pulling a knife or a gun during a fist fight).

I've never had an incident in 35 years, but do have a flick-knife in the car, just in case!!!!!

Thailand is one of the safest countries in the world for foreigners who are respectful and don;t bother others.

the police were the ladyboys, one and the same!

I have never encountered it, although I have witnessed some scary "road rage" incidents in recent years.

I take my wife with me wherever I go, if she is unavailable, I take her photo, therefore I feel safe.

All jokes aside, NEVER since I have been coming here, Isaan is safe, those festivals can be dangerous, not just for farangs, but Thai's, sorry for our bad experience, but as you know Thai's can drink as well as farangs and those that can't handle their alcohol can be dangerous.

I go out 3 times a week in the evening, drive down a quiet long stretch of road for 20 kms and through a couple of villages, I don't feel unsafe at all.

Generally speaking Thai's in Isaan like farangs, in other words, I always get a smile by Thai's riding by or driving by when out the front of my house, don't know if that anything to do with the local cop saying to me a decade ago, anybody give you trouble, I take care, pointing at his gun, then saying 10,000 baht, smiled and walked away with chest pointing outward of his 50 or 60kg body with him standing about 150cm tall ????

Too funny BritMan.

Thanks for the smile.

my wife initiated a pillow fight once. ???? other than that, the one time I thought I was going to have trouble, it turned out they just wanted me to sit down and chat with them. They gave me whisky.

A funny but true incident, about 25 years ago, I was in Pattaya for a meeting and arrived on my mc a little early, and am squatting by my bike having a cig when this drunk Brit and his hooker came walking past. He decided I was fair game and stopped, staring at me, "Oy you wanna problem?"

I mentioned to his other half that I worked for Gamnan Poh (the underworld king at that time) and told her to take him away before he gets into trouble. He didn;t, so I called my Thai contact and told him I am being threatened by a  farang outside the office (6am) and less than 5 minutes later, a police pick up screeched round the corner, pulled up, handcuffed him and threw him in the back then drove away.

The girl stood in the middle of the road shouting,

"HEY YOU NOT PAY ME YET"

Sounds like a keeper.

Once, but she had to wear shades for a week after......

I once had a motorbike stake me out for a gold chain snatch down a quiet soi at night. He ended up flat on his back after I whacked him with a handy piece of discarded wood from the side of the road!

If you'd stayed for more then 3-4 glasses, it probably would've turned nasty! Thai men and whisky is a volatile combination!!!

I've been attacked!

Before my first trip to Thailand, I met a gal on TF. We carried on a long distance, digital romance for a year before meeting real. She picked me up at the airport and took me to my accommodation.

Once in the room, suitcase unpacked, she attacked.

No harm done. Just had to spend a day or two in bed to recover.

An attack that I'll never forget. ????

I was wary, being new to the country, but they looked scarier than they were. I remember they were full of questions about English football. genuinley nice people, but dodgy whisky.
