Truckie arrested after driving overloaded truck across "Bailey Bridge"

Naew Na reported that an overloaded truck carrying rocks caused the collapse of a temporary bridge over the Huay Thom creek on the Amnat Charoen to Mukdahan road.

The truck trailer fell into the creek but the driver was rescued by locals after being thrown clear.

The crossing is a temporary "Bailey Bridge" installed after recent storm damage to the existing concrete structure.

The limit is 12 tons but Naew Na said the driver was arrested for negligence after exceeding the limit while crossing late on Tuesday night.

The truck was on its way to make repairs to river banks in the Mukdahan area.

Bailey Bridges were popular during World War II as they can be prefabricated and are portable, notes Thaivisa.

Further proof if it were needed, that you just can't fix stupid.

Stronger and stronger Thai drivers ..:cheesy:
Hey, I'll go through the night, cops sleep, nobody will see me ..
Except that if the bridge is limited to 12 tons, there must be a reason.
When we see the vehicle we already know that it is more than 12 tons empty, so full of pebbles or sand he had to weigh a good 50 tons ...
I hope that the owner of the said truck is well insured ...

Looks like they have the basis for the new bridge in place, just need to make sure it does not wash down river. The owner can make some of the coming costs back by invoicing for the rocks delivered already.

Poor driver was distracted, he was busy listening to Rod Steward on the radio..... I am sailing, i am sailing.????

The usual driver response, it says 12 tonne, but that is others not me, i am exempt.

he did a better job, than a Squadron of B29s

at least they there now have a bonus load of ballast for a new bridge

And also a good example of the results of Thai education, no ability to analyse anything, and therefore not even realizing there should be any thought about the capabilities of the bridge.

And also why more and more Thai employers complain bitterly that their staff cannot contribute to internal discussions, cannot envisage the upside / the downside of what's right in front of them and more...

Saving time for his boss by taking the shortest route!

I wonder whether those who installed the Bailey Bridge remembered put up weight limit signs.

And my thought would be.

Even 'if' the weight limit had been posted, would it have made a difference?

No other posted sign, from speed limits, stop signs, to even driving on the left seems to make any difference, so why would this!

Oh yes. In fact, they are probably part of the kit. Of course this the side he was heading to, but I think I can see, in another shot, the sign from the other end lying in the river.

Slam dunk then!

Good point but the reality is that Thai drivers (and many others) never ever read any signs.

My unit have taken 73 ton Conquer low pro file  battle tanks  across bailey bridge

  • but this is Thailand, and who knows who were the Bailey Builders?
  • not the putheruperers, but the supplier's origins?

I know!... lets call the MythBusters!

A storm damaged the concrete structure! No fines for the constructor?

A simple mathematical error made by the driver.

My Lorry weighs 30,000 kg, the weight limit on this bridge is 12.000 kg

12,000 into 30,000 goes 2 times and a little margin there is only me and my truck so no problem to cross, plus me and my lorry always go over 12,000kg bridges, why am i being arrested ?

You’re dead right old mate.  They don’t take notice of any posted signs. I’m ok, I’m wearing my amulet

Can you imagine the mayhem, if Thailand had 14.6 foot high overpasses and bridges

Speaking from personal experience?

The boss is going to have to sell a lot of stones to pay for all that damage....
