Are you sure they have such a license?

OneMoreFarang - you sound like a truly excellent fellow - standing up for the rights of young people working in Karaoke bars ( knocking shops) - well done

It is quite probable that they were not just working as waitress's

As you previously posted that you meet your partner in a bar when she was working in a bar when she was 16 , you would be quite aware that some 16 year olds working in bars arent just serving drinks

Yes, some aren't. But some do.

It's like one poster here saying all pretties are prostitutes. I don't think so.

And I don't think that all waitresses are prostitutes.

Maybe it's hard for you to believe. But there are actually karaoke bars which are not prostitution places.

There are also lots of massage places which actually offer Thai traditional massage and nothing else.

And of course their are prostitution places. If prostitution happens then there are laws against that. Let the police enforce them.

Neither do I think that all waitresses are prostitutes , but any girl working in a sex industry venue, is highly likely to be doing other things, rather than just serving drinks

Have I missed the point? These bars were raided because the girls were regarded as "trafficked child entertainers" and now the Tourism Minister is suggesting school children become tour guides in Bangkok Temples to improve their language skills!!

Perhaps not - exposure to sex predators!

Its quite unlikely that sex predators are going to hire a tour guide hoping that they are underage and even if they were , being in a temple is quite a safe environment

When  I walk into bar I expect the owner follow the laws and its not my responsibility to check anybody ID for possible violations.

In most cases, police find suspected victims online as bars showcase their young waitresses on social media, he added.

Amazing that the business owners are too stupid to realise that if potential customers can be attracted by promoting what they offer on-line, then the police can see what they are doing too.  Same thing happens with idiots pimping on FB, or advertising illegal street races.

In the US see how far that gets you in front of a judge. "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse." I was told when I first came here in April 2000 to check the girls ID before bringing back to hotel. They evn had posted in hotel how to check age wriiten in Thai (the date say 2562-18=2544 ( Over 2544 legal )   What if you picked up on Beach Road ?  Police and judge don't want to hear "well she looked 18"

Why are they harassing waitresses and preventing from earning some money?

Some NGOs are seriously out of control, and authorities seem to be falling for it because they want to suck up to the USA and their neo-colonialist attitudes forcing 'trafficking' on the rest of the world.

I used to think NGO's were helping people now know they lie to keep being funded. Years ago I saw on YouTube a supposed documentary on child trafficing in Thailand.  A undercover NGO (Brit) was being taken around. I could not understand any of the adults (natives) talking and they were driving on the oppisit side of the street as Thailand.  Turns out they were in Cambodia, NGO didn't even know what country he was in or didn't care as long as he got a story with Thailand as the bad place.

All Karoke Bars should be Banned, I was a victim of drugged cocktails, they didnt care they drugged all four of us, the girls were found unconscious in the toilet, and we were passed out on Sofas, and billed for 36 Shots of Tequila, I only remember 1, I remember being driven to a 7/11 to remove 11,000 b, and then made to walk home to my condo 2 kilo away, got there after falling and smashing my face, Security notes  time of a  arrival 4:00, or I never would have known, how or when I arrived, Never Again

If you need to be 20 to enter a bar serving alcohol, you should be 20 to work there as well.

How about restaurants?  And those alterboys/girls when serving the wine and wafers?

the ngo's on this forum are all creeping out of the woodwork.

any foreigner is at risk of being set up as a paedophile.

the payments are enormous and too good to miss.

the ngo's that come to thailand were all recruited from the homeless shelters in the west.

yet nobody seems to notice this army of roughs who could not possibly afford even the air fare.

i was brought up in the uk under a strict regime and we were told that 16 was the age of consent.

it is true that in victorian times the age was increased from 10 to 13.

yet now america has raised the age to 18 and more.

and this at a time when with better food and medical care the onset of puberty occurs at a younger and younger age.

we all know what a child is and children may be cute but they are not sexually attractive.

can nothing be done to stop this witch hunt?

It has been stated that child sexual abuse in the villages is rife .

Wonder how many of those sexy looking little girls , dressed up in fishnets , mini skirts , make-up and dancing provocatively on stage , get abused by their drunken step father when they get home ?

Multiple bickering baiting and basically off topic posts and replies removed, there is plenty to discuss in the original article without going into member personal details and reflections resulting in arguments.

It would be a good job for your daughter- you could get in on the fun. Sick.

Karaoke bars are for people with more money than sense. Bait and switch is a common tactic. Plus overcharging, with bouncers ready to enforce it.

It baffles me why older men want to have sex with teenagers irrespective of legality. I'd rather enjoy sex with an older experienced woman.
