What is the best theme to a series ever?

I don't really understand what the OP means by "theme", but if it's the opening sequence, Twin Peaks does it for me. When I watch it on DVD I let the opening play rather than fast forwarding through it as it is just as good as what goes on in the drama itself. Lynch is a genius.
What i meant by theme, was the music ,rather than the opening "film" but whatever anyone likes best ,actually the film in the opening in Cheers is good as well ,especially the last shot of the guy laid back in his chair.,

Theme = theme music. It's not rocket science.

Some of my favourite are already mentioned such as the themes from The Persuaders; Tour of Duty; M.A.S.H.; and Bonanza. I also like the theme from the "Strikeback" TV series. Several episodes were filmed in Thailand as well:

Dad used to play this almost every night on the farm, after coming back inside from the cows... to unwind!

the memory still brings shivers... but will endure it for one last time!

(the nights he wasn't doing it on the lounge piano, he was out on the front veranda, blasting away on the squeezebox! (piano accordian)  Apparently the neighbour farmers enjoyed it...

ahaaaH!!

 the Windows Series...

as far as the sounds  here are concernerd...

well, you have to wait for 58 secs before the first one kicks in.

 - those early Windows start ups were almost as slow as a Commodore 64

with thanks to TomAndJerry1998 for his patient persistence in compiling it all...

I still remember the words to the Davy Crockett tv series, but the theme to Bonanza has to be the best by far.

You'll have to try harder to be insulting next time.

I don't know what is going on with TVF software, but it chose my previous post to become unuseable and make a mess of my quote.

I can't even edit it so trying again here.

If we are referring to the theme MUSIC, the series MOGUL had the best I can remember.

Many of those old British series were far, far better than the tosh that they make now.

Edge of Darkness will never be bettered, IMO. Prime suspect, Cracker, The Likely Lads, The Avengers, Midsomer Murders, the La Plante series, Agatha Christie series etc. All great tv moments.
