Clerk who shot at court shooter charged with attempted murder

Chanthaburi courthouse clerk Thanakorn Therawarodom has been charged with attempted murder after he snatched a gun from police and allegedly fatally shot Pol Maj-General Thanin Chantharatip who on Tuesday allegedly went on a shooting spree in the court, killing two people and injuring two.

 

Deputy police spokesman Kritsana Pattanacharoen, while briefing about progress in investigations into the shooting incident, said on Wednesday (November 13) that Thanakorn was arrested in the morning when he left the court.

 

Police are now providing protection to the family of the well-known lawyers, Bancha Pramekhanaphon, 61, and Wijai Sukharom, 51, who were killed.

 

Bancha’s wife Suphaphon Prameesanaporn and another lawyer, Wichai Udomthanapat, were injured in the attack.

 

Retired senior policeman Thanin, 67, a former inspector-general at the Royal Thai Police Office, was a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by Bancha over land measuring about 3,800 rai in Tambon Khao Kaeo, in the Tha Mai district of Chanthaburi province.

You have heros, and you have people who take the law into their hands, and when it comes to snacking firearms and shooting at people the law is very stick about it regardless of the outcomes, was it a justifiable shooting? the courts will decide...

Interesting that the court clerk could do what the police were failing to do. That he used a police firearm shows it is not an equipment failure in this situation.

Isn't it a good thing that SOMEONE took him out before more lives were lost?

Now why would the police be needing to provide protection to the families of victims who were killed, when the shooter himself was also killed?

 

Are they suggesting that some of the retired policeman's brethren wouldn't be able to restrain themselves after one of their own was killed following a murder spree?

The court clerk probably saved many lives by his actions, which in my book overrides the measures that he took to save them.

 

The policeman in question will have known full well that the defendant was one of his ' own gang ' and in all likelihood froze or was not up to the job of doing his duty, as many of them are not.

 

You seen to place emphasis on the courts deciding what is and is not justifiable homicide? it boils down to who gets there first to smooth the waters, with the biggest wallet.

 

Maybe, just maybe, the courts will side with one of ' their own ' this time, as in the the court clerk, in the interests of justice.

 

It would be unfathomable in the UK, for a person holding the very high rank such as the defendant in this case, to enter a courtroom and begin shooting it up regarding a civil land dispute.

 

Thailand is still ridiculously immature in the eyes of the outside world, but they themselves cannot see it due to their blind arrogance.

 

It also needs vastly improved security measures at the entrances to Thailand's courts or there will start to be many more copycat cases of this incident.

 

I remember once going to Pattaya courts and they had a metal detector installed, and not only court staff and police but lawyers and members of the public just bypassed it if they didn't want to go through it and were not even questioned. It might as well not have been there.
