PATTAYA:-- A Nong Plailai man says he can now achieve his dream after winning 12 million baht in the government lottery.

Niran Manorum, 39, brought his mother and daughter to Banglamung Police Station Nov. 16 to report that he’d won the first prize in that day’s lottery draw. He had bought two tickets with the number 017223 as 23 is his birthdate. Each ticket was worth 6 million baht.

A delighted Niran said he has played the lottery for years and has won smaller prizes before. This time he hit the jackpot and didn’t even know it until a friend called to tell him.

The Buri Ram native said can now fulfill his dreams of paying off all his debts, buying land and building a new house for his mother and expanding his business. He also plans to buy and donate audio equipment to his local temple.

As with most big winners around the world the money will more than likely be all gone within the first year especially with family/extended family friends etc with their hands out .

Before loudspeakers were invented the Thai people were very unhappy and seldom smiled.

Ok, so in reality it is not the Land of Smiles, it´s the Land of Speakers.

It all depends where you come from. For a man earning 10.000/month, 12 mill is a fortune.

A lot or not, most folks would be happy a out it. Obviously, you feel it is just peanuts.

12 million baht, is a lot of money for a Thai. Average monthly salary in Pattaya is 13,656 ฿ after tax. So he's a middle-class now.

Hope he lives long enough to enjoy the money.

And only the occasional poor person is allowed to win.

Considering how much the government rakes in I still think it is peanuts. 500 000 US might seem a lot, but even in today's Thailand it won't go a long way. I cringe when I see TV show 10 000bht grand prizes It is a joke. Those of you who still think that it is a lot must be vrom Vietnam or somewhere else like that. A decent lotto prize would be around 30 000 000 bht... and btw this guy had to buy two tickets to win this amount. So, had he bought one ticket as is the norm he would have won 250 000 bht. Not a very good lotto IMHO.

Yes , it is a safety net to stop anybody stealing his tickets and claiming the prize for themselves.
