I don´t think so. As in the yesterday(?) published article written, many tourists come to Pattaya, stay one night, visit the famous Walking Street to take some selfies and leave to the islands. Chinese, if they come by group tours or as individual travelers with family or boy/girlfriend were never good guests in bars and gogos. The western customers don´t come anymore in masses because the high Baht.

Thai authorities think that big numbers translate to big revenue - well it doesn't, they have alienated the big spenders who are now going elsewhere - to places were they fell welcomed and treated properly

So maybe not that strange that the streets are empty before midnight as the tourists category who visit Pattaya mainly for the temples and beauty spots goes to bed early with the exception of a few who also wish to spot 2-legs beauties ...

The same in every country. I have heard there are taxis, red buses and Uber in Pattaya. It´s soooo easy to avoid problems. I never ever paid at a check point. I am never drunk, wear my helmet and have my documents with me. Life can be easy.

I can have far more fun in Europe than in Thailand.

Not only the high baht, the lack of choice, the Thai hostesses these days want higher prices than the West and want to be in and out as fast as possible doing as little for the money as they can.

 

All these things taken into account, and there are better value places to go now on the radar such as Vietnam and Cambodia. Many on here used to scoff at that but now it has become a reality. Vietnam has well and truly got its act together and Cambodia for all its warts, is better bang for your buck than Thailand in terms of entertainment areas, food, hotels and drink and cigarettes etc

 

It was always Western tourists that spent in the bars and restaurants and go go places, never the Chinese or Indians or other nationalities.

 

Prayut and co are trying to make people believe Pattaya is something that it most certainly is not.......a high classy resort!

 

Yes it has the shopping malls and designer shops, but it has filthy streets and beaches, a dangerous city to walk into the wrong area,  motorcycle street gangs, groups of thieving ladyboys, armed teenagers and a police force that resembles the Keystone cops!

Agoda is only talking about their room allocation "60% of OUR properties".

Which is probably around 5% of the available rooms in Pattaya or less.

The good times will return.

The government will eventually realize the knock on effect of their policies.

Tourists have always visited Pattaya for one thing whether to look/watch(the shows in the bar) or too get involved.

The bar girls were paid a good price (not the extortionate amount today) and spent their money in the local shops, markets and with street vendors. They also paid a rent to live in apartments.

Short time rooms were available 24/7 and were used 24/7.

The bars, restaurants (not all) were open 24/7 along with the street vendors.

Today everything is closed early, the baht is strong , expensive hotels are empty,and tourists have no reason to come to Pattaya any longer.

Pattaya now offers dirty beaches, dirty sea, boat trips(standing empty) expensive drinks (Aussie, USA,UK prices)

expensive restaurants and tourists worried about pick pockets, violence, corruption, violence and drugs.

Social media, newspaper stories all around the world regularly report on the negative side of Pattaya, whereas before LOS was reported and advertised as exactly that, hence, numerous tourists.

Cambodia and Vietnam are now getting the "undesirable" tourists and their tourism is booming.

LOS will be LOS once again as soon as the baht weakens, hotel prices and restaurants return to acceptable prices.

At the moment the hamster wheel is turning far to fast with various dreams and ambitious ideas. Eventually the hamsters will tire and the wheel will return to its normal speed.

Incidentally I adore The Kingdom of Thailand and I am just expressing the thoughts of tourists past, present and future.

I may be completely wrong but this is why these forums exist.

5 ears ago I've started to take Uber & Grab taxi and most of the time they were not avaible after midnight. The only option was a motorsai and I was frightened to cross Sukhumvit with them... I can drive 1000X better than them after only a few beers.

Because of that problem of transport, I and my friends are no more going to Pattaya at night For that reason, the beer bars have loosed most of their expat customers in low season = less girls, less fun... so I'm not surprise that even in high season the beer bars look dead at 11PM.

How can this be possible when TAT just upgraded their forecast for visitors this year to 85 million? Clearly, these pictures showing nobody in Pattaya must be photoshopped! Stop press, the tourism ministry has just announced that arrivals in 2019 are now expected to be over 90 million.

So true.   I watch as the Thai's have been increasingly more rude, some even arrogant.  The attitude of some of the Thai girls is, that their you know what doesn't stink, and every western farang wants them...

 

Then throw in that they openly ridicule us in Thai, think we are stupid, and can only think about how much money they can get from us...   I was in 7-11 last week when two very pretty, very sexy, European women walked in, and the Thai girls working there immediately started looking at each other giggling, making quiet comments in Thai.  After the two politely made their purchase, and walked out, the Thai girls started laughing out loud saying all kind of things in Thai.  The 7-11 is next to LK Royal Suite on Soi Buakhao.  The two European women quietly walked in, got what they wanted and left.

 

I think the Thai gov't and the Thai people have become so comfortable in thinking that we will always be here spending the most money, that they are seemingly willing to bite the hand that feeds them....

 

Yes, this is not all Thais, but then numbers just seem to keep growing..
