UK PM Johnson plans to block extension of Brexit transition beyond 2020

The recent election was the best chance for the remainers to prove their battle cry that a second referendum would easily overturn the result of the first.

How wrong can you be. Instead of a reversal , Brexit has strengthened as a result of the election.

Seems like in the end , it is the likes of Steve Coogan et al who are the ignorant ones for not understanding that the electorate still have a sense of fair play and a loathing for patronizing smart alex's.

And even Michael Heseltine has accepted it.

Which one the first or the last or both …?

As I hear Boris does not wish alignment with the E.U. eg. total freedom …. total freedom is ….alone on your own , I think you agree with that ,he start more and more directing to no deal ….. so you know that the E.U. go never accept many things he insist /change /lies or whatever say since he  got that boost election winning , but the winning was in the U.K. …...not on the E.U. continent , now your Boris go play " a home game only" probably

PS: maybe I listened to much to Boris speeches so from their maybe the "bold" ….LOL :cheesy:

Be sure it will end in no deal like he wish all along , the " reasonable Boris" was only a election tactics to win the moderated ones ….smart move I admit ….. but he go get the reckoning from the people later ...

yeah, the Westminster Pub patrons ayed the BJ May+- deal today

you're not out yet, wait and see, ain't prudent to take events for granted in the Bexit circus

not sure I fully appreciate this block extension bit

guess this must be done by legal means, ie passing a pol (piece of legislation)

stipulating no extension beyond/after pip pip pip pip

but surely the actors that pass such a pol can equally easy revoke it whenever they should fancy so

or pass another pol that overrides it ???

You might get out .....but with no "luggeage" as you might wish...as E.U. gave May  patience as they knew her hands were tied....for Boris they know with his majority all is his own possibillity and responsabillity.....no excuses anymore....????

It gone be a hardball play

Extraction from PDF attachment:

EU diplomats had been informed on Tuesday by the European commission that there
was no legal basis to agree an extension any later than that date.

So 1 July no legal option for Boris or E.U. to ask or grant extension , so his bargaining threatening time cut shorter than up to Dec.2020 ….. what's gone be Boris boy...? ????

It is part of article , response from E.U. Ursula von der Leyen …. her words ...so , I just mention them ,is in the article

Talking of Von der Leyen, she has said that the MEP Lib/Dems are very brave, can anyone tell me what act of bravery did they performed besides wearing those stupid inflamatory t shirts.????

Vote result in parliament 358 to 234 - a majority of 124 - in favour of the EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill. :clap2:

There is now literally nothing other than a house debate that is formal, its giving 3 days but with that majority nothing will change the fact we ARE leaving now on Jan 31. Stage 2 ( negotiation or relationship ) transition period is after we have left.

Just get used to it we ARE leaving on Jan 31 and im a realist . Short of a war..

Have a happy Brexmas one and all. :drunk:

But it was Alex Salmond who quoted that at the time, or doesn't that matter?

quote from your post "Double standards again, duplicity all around".

Johnson said "dead in a ditch" but hes still walking around.

Is it only those who you disagree with who should be held to metaphorical account?

All their (remainer) bluster came to nothing.

Last Friday the result was checkmate and it's about time the 'someone elses fault' brigade realized their seasonal goose has been cooked.

I take it the goose voted for being cooked?

I must boldy disagree - there will be some version of a deal - I think both sides realise that neither of them can afford not to have one.

Problem is there are so many different views on Brexit within the Conservative party.

ERG want one thing.

Soft Brexiteers want another.

There will still be some who dont want Brexit at all.

So Johnson will end up the same as May and by trying to appease all these groups we will end up crashing out because no-body can agree which version of Brexit the country wants.

At that point Brexiteers will all unite and claim its the EU's fault.

They can extend as long as they like,

If both sides do agree.

But Boris hates dither.. and delay

That's plain for all to see.

(I'm a poet and I don't know it). :cheesy: Good morning all.

I think that you will find that the Tories, in Parliament, at least, are more united after the election.

Do agree they are a pain, but in some situations a link is required. And if the link information is in a PDF, what is your alternative?

So are you saying we shouldn't believe what a SNP MP says?

I am saying you shouldn't use weak and flimsy arguments to stand in the way of democracy.

The differences in government are moot.

The WAB allows for the negotations to be conducted in secrecy on the UK part.

With no Parliamentary vote or ratification
