WINDOWS 10 is braced for an update that will finally fix a frustrating problem Microsoft fans have been reporting for the last month. Microsoft recently released the November 2019 Update for Windows 10 that introduced a number of refinements to the operating system. A few of the most notable were delivered to its File Explorer that, as the name suggests, is used to locate items across your PC. The November 2019 Update brings a new search bar to File Explorer and also allows the tool to sort through files stored in the cloud in addition to those saved locally.

Additionally, the November 2019 Update also disables the use of the right-click within File Explorer and doesn’t allow fans to copy and paste text into its search bar.

In fact, one Windows 10 user went so far as to say File Explorer in the November 2019 Update (also referred to as version 1909) is “completely unusable”.

Anyone experienced these issues mentioned on version 1909?

PLEASE don't quote the Express for technology issues. They're usually misinformed, and inaccurate - basically sloppy journalism!

It's all explained here https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/144829-how-enable-classic-file-explorer-last-update-has-removed.html

I'm VBF on there as well.

Oh and I have 1909 on 3 PCs running W10 Pro and 2 running Home - I went straight from 1809 on 4 of them, and from 1809 - 1903 - 1909 on the other one.

All working perfectly.

Not just for technology issues...

And about:

That's about as useful as the typical user complain: "it doesn't work" or my favorite: "there was a message". What did it say? "I don't know"

So we can rest assured that there are no issues at all with Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 because your 2 pc's at home are working perfectly. Thank you for the perfect and reliable information.

Your misplaced sarcasm simply tells me that you would rather believe and quote from moronic tabloid  journalists who love to dramatise trivia, than bother to read the link I quoted from a  very reliable and informed website.

As it happens, 1909 is the best-behaved version of Windows 10 so far - MS have changed the way they present updates inasmuch as 1909 is more of an "enabler" than a full update.

Many of the minor issues are coming from those who tinker with their systems without really understanding how they work, and then wonder why they get problems!

But you appear to be too busy insulting me to do your research - have fun with that. Why, you didn't even read my post thoroughly - I said "3 PCs running W10 Pro and 2 running Home" that's 5 in total, all working perfectly, and, all "at home."

Myself, I've been using FreeCommander for years, the dual panels is a great sanity saver.  I was a paid subscriber for a while.  Worth checking out, especially if you keep a lot of files/directories/partitions.

I don't use cloud storage or network drives so can't say if/how it handles that stuff.

I only use the Windows File Explorer when another program pops it up, so like 0.1% of the time.

Another change on the horizon is to MS Edge.  I don't use it myself (nor IE) but I came across this and have kept it for future reference.

I haven't tried FreeCommander but from reading about it, it appears similar to the old XTree utility from waaaaaaay back in DOS days! I might try it on one of my test PCs but tbh I find Windows File Explorer adequate as long as I set the Folder Options the way I like them. Always good to have choice though.

Regarding the Edge changes, I use Chrome as my main browser (syncs nicely with my Android devices too) but Edge is the "official" default on the systems (couple of reasons for that) Edge is not that user-friendly (IMO) and if MS is to make Edge behave more like Chrome, I shall be pleased.

I always have a Macrum image of my important PCs so can revert if necessary - paranoia is a wonderful thing. ????

When I read "Microsoft is finally fixing this frustrating problem with your PC" I presumed that the latest upgrade uninstalled Micro$oft Windows and replaced it with a Linux distribution.  It is utterly beyond me why any normal PC user continues to use and pay for that utter steaming pile of doo-doo.

Well i take your point, in an amused sort of way, but even modern distributions of Linux (Ubuntu, Mint etc etc) are less "user-friendly" than Windows to the average user, who, let's not forget, is usually not a techhead like I presume you are and I am, and just wants to treat the computer like any other "off the shelf" electronic device.  Sad, but true!

I'm running Cinnamon Mint on an old Netbook and with many years in IT, I still find it a little more challenging than Windows 10...not much but still a little.

I have a friend, a retired postman, who bought a laptop from a company I recommended and set about installing Windows 10. This company supplies PCs with Windows "Ready to install" although they will do it for you if you ask. I suggested my mate did it himself under my supervision, asking questions IF he needed to, thereby giving him a learning experience.

He's a very bright guy but has no real history in IT as you'd imagine.

About 2 hours, and a scant 3 or 4 questions later, the laptop was up and running, fully patched and with required programs installed. Thing is, most of it was intuitive to a non-technical person.

I suggest that had he chosen Linux, it might have been rather less simple for him.

Oh, and, buying a PC, the "cost" of Windows (OEM) was of course, included and as we know future updates don't cost anything and with 1909 can be very well controlled.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm in no way "dissing" Linux (pun intended), but IMO, horses for courses. And, as I said above....."1909 is the best-behaved version of Windows 10 so far" IMO, of course. ????
