Good idea, time to go home to the land of the free. ????

I'd prefer to take my chances with the flu, than risk life in the land of the gun!

In 2017, gun deaths reached their highest level since 1968 with 39,773 deaths by firearm, of which 23,854 were by suicide and 14,542 were homicides.Wikipedia

An impressive response from the medical services.

Its good to see this response rather than ‘no insurance no hospital’ type approach...

Even in unfortunate circumstances it’s good to see Thailand in a positive light in the news for a change.

He is insured, otherwise he's be dead by now. I'm sure it was the hospital agreeing to fly him out after being assured they would be compensated.

“His insurers and the top doctor agreed to fly him by seaplane to Bumrungrad. He wasn’t able to go above a certain altitude because his lungs would pop.

Certainly don't go if you tend to be depressed.

Considering the amount of Anti western/pro Chinese stance of the government at the moment i'm beginning to believe more and more in karma........ "What goes around comes around"........  32, Hope the kid gets well.....

Let's hope the TAT gets the Fung shoi man in to tell them to ease up on the farang bashing or a plague of locusts will invade the country........

might be a good idea to get a pneumonia shot this year.  does the virus cause viral pneumonia or is it bacterial pneumonia.  the difference is that if it's a secondary bacterial infection promoted by the virus than the pneumonia vaccine would help.

So far... there's no evidence of human to human transmission for this virus. And WHO has, thus far, specifically advised against any travel restrictions.

The Chinese government this morning have confirmed that it can be transmitted human to human (statement by the Chinese president)

Since Koh Phi Phi doesn't have an airport the only way to fly somebody to the mainland is by seaplane!

Not about the money, but more of practicality. The story also said "He had to be ferried by specialised seaplane because his damaged lungs could not cope with high altitude travel.", which indicates that there are flights between these two islands.

I will believe this story only after it's been reported in more reliable news sources.

Also, there was no mention, if the person has been to Wuhan region, which is the most important information in this case.

It has been disclosed that it can be transmitted by people

But it is feared the Chinese authorities are hiding the true scale of the problem.

Maybe they should suspend direct flights from this Chinese region util the Chinese start to prove they're screening people 100% before boarding a flight to Thailand.

But still screen all inbound flights from China before immigration points.

Well I sincerely hope it isn't the new virus cos we've been led to believe it ain't so virulent (as in it kills you) for those not suffering from pre-existing conditions, but if a 30 something who was "a seriously fit and strong guy before this" can be laid at death's door by it, then we all have a real problem.

Well, this is reported by 'The Sun' no less who clearly haven't done their homework. High altitude travel is not possible from an island with no airport!

SEA PLANE don't need an airport that is why they are called a SEA PLANE init.

You think hiding true scale what makes you say that

Past Performance's I would say

I would say no one is ever going to know true scale as they want say it

With Chinese tourism their main hope in this damaged section of the Thai economy, TOT might be rattled as to what to do now. This infectious and deadly virus ain’t going to disappear in a hurry! The world is now on full alert!

That's right. Two Canadian girls died on Phi Phi of suspected phosphine poisoning. But that doesn't lead to pneumonia-like symptoms. Just death and brain lesions.

Unfortunately that is not exactly true. As per this article regarding an earlier incident.

Jill St Onge, one of 2 tourists who died of unknown causes, pathologist says her "lungs were 100 percent congested"

Given the past history of these islands, definitely a possibility, as is coronavirus from China.

It must be the vertical take off version of the A380, I heard it was quite popular.

if you're going to cut and paste stories here it's advisable to use a reliable source not a tabloid rag.

But it will likely not impact the need to bring in more and more tourists from mainland China.  Thailand, along with other SEA countries will become the Petri dish for the next pandemic.  Throw in the ongoing pollution from burning sugar cane and methinks this is the beginning of something horribly bad...

The number of people infected with a new virus in China tripled over the weekend, with the outbreak spreading from Wuhan to other major cities.

There are now more than 200 cases, mostly in Wuhan, though the respiratory illness has also been detected in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Three people have died. Japan, Thailand and South Korea have reported cases.

The new strain of coronavirus, which causes a type of pneumonia, can pass from person to person, China confirmed.

It has been confirmed it is being transmitted person to person, so he didn't have to have been in Wuhan recently. Given teh numbers of Chinese tourists arriving for CNY, we are all at risk. Not to be alarmist, but it could develop into a pandemic.

The Chinese Spring festival (the Chinese New Year) is coming up. 400 million people will travel home to their parents during this period. The Chinese government cannot stop this from happening.

This situation could look very different in 2 weeks time (in China anyway)

If he hasn’t recently been to Wuhan, the virus is now present in Thai livestock or it’s transmitted from person to person which considering the high infection rate being reported in China seems unfortunately to be the case, if he has the new corona virus that is.

It is P to P transmission,  that's the scary part

Right now there is a persistent outbreak of type of flu with bronchitis and associated symptoms lasting for an extended time period (two weeks or more) going on here in Krabi (Koh Phi Phi is located in Krabi Province).

I don't know the numbers, but many people here have it. The symptoms are not severe but quite persistent.
