I wonder if it is transmittable during the incubation period.

There are conflicting opinions from different scientific groups.  Some say quite categorically that it can not be transmitted during incubation and others state that they don't know for sure.

Still 41 dead and rising and no vaccine in sight.  Some say that a vaccine is a year away and one report I read have said that initial tests show that the ebola vaccine is showing good results.

Stop all flights from China, please.

  • So she was out and about two days before checking in. It's likely there are hundreds like her walking about. Infrared scanners at airports are useless when the incubation time is two weeks.

Any form of viral influenza can be transmitted during the incubation phase so it apply for this virus too

And the gov dumbass are asking for more FREE visas for the Chinese. Have they lost their minds?

I bet a lot of thais are taking antibiotics right now, just in case they might get sick...

lol

totally useless against a virus and you destroy your immune system that is supposed to fight intruders

A golden opportunity has been missed here...by not telling the Chinese that the source was rhino horn ????

During incubation, patients aren't infectious. Or as Dr. William Schaffner, a professor at Vanderbilt University and the medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, describes it, "It’s in my body but it’s not getting out."

Not surprised the regime takes no blame in this.  They opened the Chinese Pandora’s box with free visas and special promotions enticing millions of Chinese to arrive here every month.  And Thailand has become Wuhan’s favorite vacation destination...

Too late.... T.A.T puts Chinese New Year statistics above public health!

And countries will continue to kowtow to China because of money. They should be banned from everywhere!

Agree

Look out world. With Chinese New Year looming they will be traveling in very large numbers. Sit tight and prey!

There'll be a lot of panic and alarmist rhetoric and in the end the outbreak will be contained and the actual death toll will be a couple hundred people. Maybe.

Remember the SARS outbreak ? Total death toll - 800 people around the world.

The MERS outbreak ? Under 200.
The Bird Flu ? Worldwide since 2013 - just over 600 deaths.

Even the Ebola outbreak from 2014-2016 only claimed about 15 people outside of the 3 West African countries most affected by the outbreak.

So about 1,600 deaths worldwide from those 4 epidemics in 6(ish) years (not counting the Ebola victims in those African countries).
About the same as 35-40 days of traffic fatalities in Thailand on average.

Not going to panic about this just like I didn't about the last 4 major outbreaks (and a dozen or so "end of the world" prophecies that never came true).

If you have nothing good to say isn't it better to say nothing ?

Trojan horse

It is well past the time to closes the borders for all people traveling from China.

One of them, returning from Wusan appears to have deliberately taken a drug to suppress her symptoms and avoid detection at the airport.

How would you know what drug to take?

The woman, who had taken a normal over-the-counter anti-pyretic (reports didn't say which one, but aspirin or paracetamol would do) was found not to have the novel coronavirus. She just had a slight fever and had taken an anti-pyretic to reduce her fever, that's all.
