They really do not get it.  If a place makes itself attractive, for whatever reasons, people will go there.  But instead just continuously raising prices or charging more is not good.  I just left San Diego.  That city was arguing and has been arguing for years about building a new football stadium nicknamed at one point the "Koalaseuum".  The last proposal for funding the project was to not raise local income taxes but instead was going to raise visitors and hotel tax something like another 8%.  Now if I were a tourist and looking at places to visit, that sort of attitude would <deleted> me off and not help induce me to go visit that city.  Just raise the cost and gouge people that go out of their way and pay money to travel and visit a place? 

 

Since when is the word p_ss_ed something that should be deleted?  Its context is much milder than other words or senteces used by many.

First time I saw this was in Pattaya 20 years ago.I'd been in high season and came back in Low.The bars and resturants and hotels

were empty so UP go the prices!???? Someone has to make up for the short fall!????

50+ in a group - Group A, they ship them in - bus them to a single hotel charge them BT2000+ per night - bus them to various expensive venues for eating to shows to parks all over priced - do this for 7-10 days then bus them back to the airport, they are not allowed to stray from the group or go where they like because they simply don't know any better and in bed by 10pm so they are ready for another gouging the next day - who are the people running these groups - a select powerful people making a fortune

 

Not my idea of a holiday - part of the adventure of all my vacations over the years was to plan research and explore, what they are doing with these Chinese is a bit like a Cruise Ship but without the ship - being lead about like lemmings believing that "this is how a holiday is meant to be",

 

but of course I did not come from a communist country - I was pretty much free to travel how - where and when I wanted 

 

Remember were they come from - they are well used to being herded and told what to do and for now Thailand is taking advantage of that

keep on ripping people off..they just don't stop...and then to think that the money will be channeled into.all those things mentioned is another in an ongoing list of B.S.

Nobody should be surprised. That's Thai logic.

 

When I started to stay long time in Thailand ages ago, I lived in a nice small hotel for six month.

When I came back next time the place was sharply going down. Less clean, less staff, less maintenance -  but more expensive.

I asked the owner about that and he told me:

"Well, we have not so many customers now. so we had to increase our prices".

 

A year or so later the hotel was closed and for sale. I don't know what the owner made after that. He might have become an advisor to the Toursim Ministry.

Another idea that is par for the course for these guys. 

This is why you don't let Thais manage anything.

It was manned counters at Don Mueang before the machines. 

 

I recall folk begging for 500thb in the airport as they had turned up with no money, spent everything on their holiday and forgot, or did not know to keep the purple passion voucher. In those days that was a ST or LT if she was skint.

Suggest an embezzlement tax then everyone pays and easier to collect????

does it mean that tourists will have to  pay for health insurance ? if correct, good, because most of problems come from tourists in hospital, maybe they will forget the thai insurance for retirees ( visa O in the future ) 

Ok so with the tourism fee to renovate renovate tourist attractions means there won’t be an entrance fee then? Or wasn’t the whole purpose of the entrance fee already levied at ALL tourist attractions which effectively would make tourist pay twice for any attractions they visit. I somewhat suspect all large portion of that would be siphoned off anyway if not the whole amount to......I leave the rest to your imagination. 

Thai economic 101, when losing money (tourists) rise prices to make up for loss. Do it again and again till go out of business. Low tourists arrival, lets kill it all the way

Personally I think Thailand needs to wait to let their tourism recover from its current dilemma before deciding to flees those that are still prepared to come.

Hahaha yes, the answer is always charge more when there are fewer tourist! I for one will simply choose to spend my money in places that treat me fairly, not try to extort from me just because I'm a foreigner!
