Pattaya: Elderly Belgian man dies after argument with neighbors over noise from his pump

Nong Prue police and Sawang Boriboon rescue services found a 65 year old Belgian man dead by his pool yesterday evening.

It was at AD House complex in Khao Talo. The owner of house number 63/39 was Willem B. His body was taken away to Bang Lamung Hospital.

77kaoded reported that before the body was found the police had been contacted after a dispute between neighbors over noise coming from the pump.

The victim had reportedly gone to a friend's house then back to his own and a police patrol was on its way to sort out the trouble.

The media said it was strange that when the patrol found the body medical staff from Bang Lamung Hospital were not called.

An autopsy is now taking place at the Police Hospital to determine what happened.

The neighbour must have been another farang as all Thais are deaf. They never hear their own dog(s) barking all night; or their son's motor bike with holes in the silencer; or the music played in their own boom-boxes (AKA pick-ups).

I agree, and I wonder if they would've complained if the pump owner was a Thai.

Pool pumps usually do not make that much noise.

This story is providing little information.... was he tinkering with the pump?

  • Popular Post

Is this the most incomplete story reported???

Pensioner dies, that’s about it.

Its not even clear if his death is related to the altercation with a neighbour or he just passed away anyway.

Where does it say it was a Thai who complained?

Maybe he poked " holes in the silencer".

I have a friend who lives in a moo ban in the outskirts of Pattaya who's surrounded by other housed each keeping a menagerie of both farm and show animals whereby the noises emanating from them unbearable and enough to send you over the bend and for some people excessive noises is enough to make them do rush decisions...

One thing we do know, the poor guys own pump has stopped working!

under pressure from both sides...

Let us not jump to conclusions now.  We all know that the farang suffered a medical problem while swimming...

Luck for him the did not live in a highrise condo...

How is this possible? Unless he owns the house and rents the land.

In the original article it says the complainant was 'she' and that she contacted the police about the noise. I feel it's unlikely a non-Thai would do this.

So in all other countries women don't call the police to complain about noise, are you for real?

If it is broken they can make a lot of noise before they completely stop to work.

About 13 years ago, I was living in an apartment and had some Thai friends over for a party. It was the one and only time I did that, living at that particular place. In the middle of the night, about 3am, they were being so noisy. I told them to tune it down a little, but they didn't listen. Some Thai neighbors knocked on my door not once, but twice, to complain about the noise. They were being nice about it but clearly they weren't happy. I was very embarrassed as it wasn't me making the noise but the "friends". I told them not to slam the door and long story short, they became "offended" and I never again saw these "friends" except for my then girlfriend who I only saw once more about a week later, which is when she broke up with me. Suspect the breakup was mainly caused by her and her friends being told to "pipe down". After I told them to stop shouting and slamming doors, they went down to the pool without me at 4am to splash around and annoy even more neighbors. Glad I no longer know these people though, they have zero courtesy or respect for anyone but themselves.

Yes I understand that, I just fixed my home water pump that was making a racket.

If my pool pump started to make a racket I would turn it off before it wrecks itself, they are darned expensive

The pump was so loud you couldn't even hear the crime in progress...

Haha, I hope you are next door to each other and there isn't some poor <deleted> between you.

That was my first thought too.

Wasn't there an incident a few months ago when a foreign man was electrocuted whilst fixing his pool pump?

Yes, but more than a few months ago.
