Attempted breakout at Buriram prison

 

 

Inmates at a prison in Buriram province were reportedly involved in a shootout with prison officers on Sunday.

 

At 11.45am, people heard the sounds of gunfire from the prison and eyewitness accounts said smoke could be seen at 12.20.

 

There are reportedly about 100 convicts inside and a number of officers were trying to prevent a breakout.

The inmates are continuing to set fires and have taken a/ some warder(s) as hostages, according to the above

who knows what is going on there - I could hazard a guess 

Send more police offices to help out, it’s gonna be crazy inside.

Probably found an inmate with Covid-19 and t'others are trying to get away from him....

Need a dull day in Thailand!  When ever I have seen the prison guards escorting prisoners to a hospital they are never armed....of course the prisoners are handcuffed and in leg irons so there is not a big window for escape! 

If any are successful in escaping do they need to self isolate for 14 days?

Why do Thai prisons still practice absolute squalid conditions that breach human rights? It's almost a death sentence to be in some of those prisons for any length of time. This country has a lot of growing pains to go through

Oh God yes. It must be what?... maybe 40 years since I assisted with installing a dozen 26" luxury colour televisions in the maximum security wing at Peterhead prison in Scotland.

At least in Scotland they are not laying on the floor side by side with 99 other inmates, lights switched on 24/7

Do you think perhaps society might want to find out WHY they're rioting before sending in the army to waste them?  The reason might well prove interesting.

why do inmates riot in any prison, usually because of the conditions and they want to get out.

Prisons are for people who have murdered, done robberies, drug pushers and the likes ....

It certainly shouldn't be a nice place for those types but i take your point and know what you mean.

Hopefully no officers get injured.  imo

Poor sods have to sleep packed like sardines on the concrete floor.

Before anyone tells me i am wrong.... Been there done that, in that very prison.????

We have no prison around here but we have a zoo nearby. Mrs BM has several customers who work there, she tells me thay have forgotton to close the gates when cleaning out the tiger cages on occasion. At least the tigers don't carry guns.

It seems every time some criminal escapes from one of the Thai police jail cells here, the report of it ends up saying, someone forgot to lock the cell doors and the inmate(s) simply scampered... Forgot to...or perhaps.... were paid to forget.
