Hua Hin: Governor warns of more closures, 7-Eleven restrictions as latest case announced

The governor of Prajuab Khirikhan province announced that the latest case of Covid-19 brought his province's total to 14.

 

The latest case is a 51 year old Belgian man who was visiting Hua Hin. He is being treated in Bangkok Hua Hin Hospital. 

 

Of the others, three patients have gone home and 10 are being treated. 

 

Most are foreigners, said Phallop Singhsaenee. He claimed that so far the number of infections show that his province is containing the outbreak. 

 

But he wants that to continue so he warned that more closures could be announced as well as further restrictions at convenience stores. 

 

Nakhon Pathom just announced an alcohol ban at convenience stores and other provinces are shutting them at night, notes Thaivisa. 

 

Phallop said that both Thais and foreigners in the area are under scrutiny for coronavirus. He mentioned seven Thais back from a religious event in Indonesia and 24 returnees from Malaysia were being monitored. 

 

In addition he wants better regulations to be put in place on the part of rescue foundations after a man dropped dead at a railway station and was found to have the virus. 

 

Foundations picking up corpses at road accidents must be more careful and initiate better measures to protect themselves and the public, he said.

The Booze ban will create a market for 'home made' booze; I predict a striking increase in blinding and deaths from home made alcohol.

What is mind boggling is the fact, that the central government is running around like a headless chicken whereas these provincial governors seem to have much more power than anyone thought. 

Maybe the first step in taking Thailand apart an create 77 little new countries - or am I getting this wrong too? 

On a more serious note, why are such rules, regulations, recommendations and suggestions not coming from a central point, valid all over Thailand? Why does it boil down to an individual province to wear/not wear masks, sell/not sell booze as well as individual opening hours? Is Thailand trying to adopt the US system with different laws, police, school systems - (very costly) individualized by the different states?

Centralized government was a good idea 100 years ago. Now it's just a bloated body that burdens people with higher taxes and regulations and slower responses to crises. It does little now 'to promote the general welfare '. 

 

There are significant movements in several American states for secession. The EU experiment is not doing well either.
