Booze ban: Governor doesn't wait for government, extends ban to May 15th

The governor of Nakhon Phanom province in the north east of Thailand is not waiting for a government decision on whether to extend the ban on the sale of alcohol or not.

Sayam Sirimongkhon said yesterday that he was extending the ban in his province until May 15th. And he called for continuing strict enforcement of the ban.

Sayam told Daily News that he was easing some restrictions on market opening and travel into his province by land and air.

The Friendship 3 bridge would remain closed to international transport except for essential goods.

But he was not easing up on the alcohol ban.

And regarding face masks he said that the authorities in his province had been told to fine people 20,000 baht if they are out without a face mask.

Thailand's government is set to discuss the ban on alcohol sales as the countrywide ban ends today.

However, provincial governor's have the autonomy to decide for themselves what is best for their province.

So Thailand is becoming a dry country now. These politicians love this game of banning. It's time to start brewing your own stuff. Hard times indeed.

  • your MIND should be soooo STRONG that any ban means NOTHING   I say ban it until the year 3000......who must have alcohol in their body??   Ban it until the year 100000000..... it

I just hope some of the other Governors around the country don't blindly follow suit in a knee jerk reaction.

He will be popular in his area. Not. Speculations that alcohol would be available for 2 days, seems distant now.

I think you will find this is a load of tosh.

The governors get their position because they are expected to adhere to decisions made by the government. Every province will ban the alcohol sales this month, and the ones, like above, who specify the 15th, will extend it to the end of the month as it gets nearer. That is what Mr P and his cronies have decided on, it is called control and power.

Any governor who would try to go against the government's decisions, will be moved or dismissed, with no questions asked.

Not only follow suit but try to be up the game a bit...

I'll see your 20,000 baht fine and raise you 3 months in prison....

If you think about it. Opening up for 2 days helps their friends in the brewing business and supermarkets. I am sure there must be quite a lot of beer in stock that will expire before the month end.

Thunder26 is right on the money. I imported some home-brew kits to LOS in the early 90's for a friend who lived in the far north. He brewed it in a big plastic garbage can from Macro. Took about two weeks and he had sixty large bottles of something called "Newcastle Brown" and it wasn't too bad either. The climate is perfect for it. Legality is another issue...

it seams like in this forum are several

people missing the drink...

Elephants search out over ripe/fermented fruit as do many birds and primates. Some animals have been known to lick poisonous toads.

Must have? Maybe not but enjoy when available ? Definitely.

Lampang was first it's just the dominoes tumbling and the crazy thirst for power over the people, completely different to other countries.

There has to be an underlying problem that is not being revealed otherwise why continue the draconian measures when the figures being released are paltry numbers.

mmm i think a few laos in boats etc will be making a profit.

It's common in Asia especially in Thailand. Don't think!!! Others, read government, will do the thinking for you !!!

I would bet this nancy is anti alcohol

This exposes a serious fundamental flaw in the Authority System, since Governors are appointed (except for Bangkok) this (deleted) can do what ever he wants and answers only to his military bosses, the people in each region are stuck with these people like it or not
